Portland State at Northern Colorado

Ugh, I hate these early games. Kickoff scheduled for 12 noon MST from Nottingham Field in Greeley, CO. Portland State heads to play the strong Northern Colorado team. The Bears play their last game of the year and hope to get their first win of the year. The Vikings still have one more game left next week and still harbor some hope of a playoff shot. The Vikings will start Connor Kavanaugh at quarterback where he has started every game so far for the Vikings. The Bears counter with Seth Lobato at quarterback. By their recent play, the Bears are not the same team as the start, showing improvement every week. However, that has not translated into any wins so far. Weather should be perfect with partly cloudy skies and temps near 60 at kickoff.

Horrible season for UNC. Not sure how we're going to recruit better football players with a shitty record like 0-11.

The shitty thing for UNC is that they got a lot better as the season went on. So many close games just coming up short. I think if UNC and ISU played today, UNC wins by a couple TD's.

Tough to go 0-11.....but when you have a Division II on your schedule, you HAVE to win that game.

A couple of those early games you played could have a different outcome if they were played now, with the improvement your team has shown. Success in the Big Sky starts with a good quarterback and you have a great up and coming one in Lobato. Those last two drives were really impressive that he led you guys on. I'm really impressed with your quarterback.

Guess UNC got their perfect record, NDSU didn't.

Amazing how far UNC fell after leaving DII. The other former conference members are doing much better, NDSU, UND, USD and SDSU.

You see, we let a guy (Scott Downing) coach our team for 5 years who was about as qualified to be the head coach of a Division I football team as as, well, anyone that has played NCAA Football on Xbox. Actually, the going theory for a while was that Downing's staff was using an Xbox in the coaches' box to call plays, but I digress.

Thanks to the Downing years, our senior class this year consisted of guys, aside from Patrick Walker, that ranged in talent from mediocre to absolutely abysmal. There was, however, a lot of talent in our freshman and sophomore classes this season and Earnest Collins pulled a class as an incoming coach that was better than anything that Downing managed.

I really think we'll improve under Collins, and quickly. A .500 record should be very doable in 2012.

The Jace Davis suspension didn't help, either.
