334 yards rushing

Twest with 180+ and 3 Tds bringing him to 21 on the year (Rookie of the Year?)

Towson is the first team to score 40 against Maine this year (Pitt has scored 35)

CAA has 3 way tie at the top: New Hampshire, Maine and Towson all at 5-1 in the conference.

Towson has a playoff spot now at 7-2????

We gotta beat UNH before talking playoffs Josh. But dominating the #5 team in the country is quite promising. Maine looked flat from the start.
Can't wait for 89 to start poo-pooing this win.

What a game next week. Whoever wins next week is in the driver's seat for the title between UNH and Towson. Be interesting to see what happens if ODU wins out, UNH beats Towson, but loses to Maine..

Looking forward to it.

Wow. Congrats to Towson. Honestly, I thought after last week's deflating loss that the Tigers would be cooked in Orono but apparently they ran all over them.

Who would've thunk it - Towson one win from a playoff spot.

Congrats again.

West vs. Heinecke is perhaps the greatest battle for "freshman of the year" in CAA history. Anyone disagree? BTW, congrats to Towson for proving yet again what all ODU fans already knew, Towson is for real.

If I'm reading the guideline properly, if their is a 4 way tie between the teams (UNH, Maine, Towson and ODU) the tiebreaker will be the Jeff Sagarin “ELO_CHESS” computation.

The first tie breaker would have been head to head if all 4 teams had all played each other, but they havent. The next step would be record vs highest ranked opponent. The only two teams all 4 have played are Richmond and Villanova, and the 4 teams all went 2-0 vs them.

Going into this week the teams were ranked as:

Maine 67.20
UNH 65.28
Towson 60.70
ODU 60.65

Maine is obviously going to drop, the question is will Towson gain enough with its win over Maine to overtake UNH who will also gain with a win over #13 James Madison. My guess is UNH will hold the advantage in the next rating release.

If you are right, I think it's pretty sad that our conference champion could be decided by a computer. :ohno:

Remember it's not tiebreaker for who wins the conference (this would be a tie without a breaker) it would be only for who gets the autoqualifier. Still a lot that needs to happen before a 4 way tie could happen.

Yup. And the auto qualifier isn't that big of a deal since the committee doesn't have to seed the autoqualifier higher than the conference at large teams. But, I still don't like Sagarin ratings deciding the conference champion. There has to be a better tie breaker. Is there a 4 way version of Rochambeau?

Some of the B(C)$ conferences place it in the lap of that bogus B(C)$ poll when there's a tie.

So, while I can't stand the B(C)$, maybe we can take a lesson from that. How about breaking the tie through the CS.com poll? From everything I've seen, we have enough votes here to ensure that this is the most sound poll out there.

Yeah Razor, Towson is definitely for real this year. Looks like the 10th and 11th teams in the conference during the preseason are gonna at least finish in the top 4. :D

Gonna be interesting to see who's named CAA Rookie of the week...both Heinicke and West had stellar performances today.

The CS poll is probably a better option than Sagarin. I'd rather see some sort of on field criteria used. Since the 4 teams that could end up tied have all played Richmond and Villanova, I'd rather see net points scored in those games used instead of using a human or computer poll.

I couldn't really comment on that claim because as a newcomer to CAA footbal fandom my grasp of it's history is honestly non-existant. I can say that both West and Heinicke are special players and may both end up being All-American as freshmen (not sure about this years RB and QB stats.) The fact that both are nominees for the Rice Award is interesting. West now has 21 TD's and 929 ? yards, Heinicke has 15 TD's, one Int., and almost 1500 yds in just 5 1/2 games. Not saying either will win that award but head-to-head West has the edge as he has played in 3 1/2 more games.

It would be quite something if ODU were to beat W&M and Towson were to win out. The two teams picked 10th. and 11th. could receive a bye and a seed respectively.

I feel like given the overall level of play by ODU and Towson, solid coaching staffs, and the fact that each has a bergeoning offensive superstar, the possilility of seeing these two teams near the top of the CAA for the next several years is very real.

I want to add my congratulations to Towson as well.

Heinicke has a 158.89 passer rating through 5.5 games. The kid is a true freshman...playing in the CAA. These next few years are gonna be fun as hell (fingers-crossed, no jinx)! :notworthy:
