So I ventured over there yesterday for a beer/tailgate and to catch a game. The field is NOT as bad as it is viewed on TV. Much easier on the eyes. Points are lost immediately because of the TRACK. Moderate concessions, ease of access. Many many promotions, perhaps just because it was homecoming, who knows, but it was nice. Fans were really into the game. HAS lights, a definite plus. Tailgating was not bad, not bad at all. Not to the extent of Missoula, but it had many many tailgates and lots of beer and food being consumed as well as many games. Never got offered a beer by any random tailgate though.. Kind of expected at least ONE, but...KALM had me a stash at his tailgate. Was not allowed to bring anything. Food was good.
Kalm and your wife were excellent hosts. Your friends were simply awesome!
Thanks again.
Side Note: SE, you still suck. That is all

It's not a bad little venue and from what I hear there's some good things coming in the way of improvements. Agree on the track, hate it, but don't see it going anywhere anytime soon. Biggest complaints this season have been from long ticket lines, particularly at the MSU game. There's worse problems to have, but stuff like that pisses people off.
The no alch thing is a State law, not a University policy, so it's hard to get around that one.

Ummm...In the tailgates. Not the stadium for the beer.
Long ticket lines, you say? Buy your tickets earlier, not game day.
And, Kalm asked me this question, Video Board or put in another grandstand.
Video screen would have been nice yesterday. With a new grandstand you also have to think about plumbing/concessions/power/etc... Might be better to move in baby steps.

Gotcha. Yeah, a new replay board is the first thing on the agenda from what I have heard.

I don't know what time the game started, or what time people started trying to get in, but I hate it when people bitch about long lines to get in, and they are trying to enter the stadium 20 mins or so before the game.
How long before kick does EWU open the stadium? UNI is 90 minutes, I can't imagine EWU is that much different.

Good points on both.
EWU had the gates open way way early...so if you were worried about getting into the stadium early...go in then.
EWU also moved folks in MUCH faster than any stadium I have ever been at before. Kalm, his wife, me, and a few others walked in about 8 minutes before kickoff and the line was less than 5 minutes. Props to EWU to not being like the airport-Wa Griz-Nazi's to enter the stadium.

Getting to the concessions at the half is a joke. It takes half an hour to get a water and they divide up the lines for cash and cards but don't say anything til you're at the front.

It is different in that the gates did not open until about 50 min before MSU game time and by then there were already long lines to get in. I am fully supportive of the athletic dept and all they have done. I'm giving them slack writing it off to growing pains because we seldom experience these kinds of crowds.
Easterns biggest problem is the University board does not support athletics. It is commonly felt money should go to academics and to hell with athletics. Our President Dr Arevelo is very supportive of athletics and it appears believes in the thought that athletics is the front porch of a University. Maybe if we keep winning seasons and playoff runs things will change.

Perhaps you should have introduced yourself to an EWU tailgate and you might have not had to wait in lines and enjoyed some BBQ/etc... Just sayin'.

Were you at the game yesterday? There was a tailgate competition with a shit ton of give-aways for the "senior" and "freshman" tailgates. Neat competition and it was put on by the Alumni and the Athletic Department.

Yes I was there. Right lots of stuff going on and that created a game day atmosphere Eastern has not had since... since... well since the last time Montana played in Cheney.

Would have liked to meet up with ya and buy you a beer...should have hit me up in a PM or something. Perhaps next time. And, yes, I thought it was very good.

You do realize that you're not the first Griz fan to populate our tailgate. I think people were nice because you actually have an inside voice.
Oh, and screw the rigged tailgate competition. Fight songs were not supposed to be a part of the judging criteria. We were robbed. And where the fuck was SE in all of this? He had to have played that song a ton when he was in school. Way to get my back in a time of need.
Just try to not take out any more of our native wolf population next trip.
Nice to reciprocate on the hospitality Grizza!

Yes. I understand that, and I am pretty sure I didn't drop any F-bombs..... I am just amazed at each game I attend at the way folks treat folks from other teams...good or bad. More often than not, it is good.
Like I said before, I would have learned your fight song if I knew that I needed to know it. I will have it memorized next time I show.

There's your problem. Gates need to open sooner. If the game has been sold for a while the athletic department knew how many people were going to need to get through the gate and 50 min isn't enough for over 9k.
Hell, UNI basketball opens 60 minutes before the game, and that is for 6-7k thousand.
