UTC's starting QB got hurt and the backup almost won it for them. Didn't get to see the whole game, but from what I saw, GSU's run D got shredded by a QB who couldn't hit the broadside of a barn.

Georgia Southern took a 14-0 lead and BJ Coleman got knocked out of the game with a shoulder injury. I thought the game was over and was considering changing the channel... But Chatty's freshman quarterback that came on to replace him played phenomenally. Really sucks to be Chattanooga right now. They've had so many chances to get Huesman a signature win and get the program back in the playoffs... but, just can't seem to finish.

Hell of a game, though.

I think Georgia Southern has some issues-- both with fumbling (they have about 20 so far this year) and with run defense. They also have to play AT Wofford and AT App State still. I think there's a good chance for a 3-way tie atop the SoCon this year.

From the limited time I got to see of the game, when Jabo Shaw threw the ball, he did not look good. Overthrew big time.

There is no "holy crap" to it. IYAM. Chatty is easily is the best team with a losing record outside of Cheney, Washington.

Excellent post KY. Very spot on. Chatty handed it to us in the ground game. Their offensive line is the unsung hero of their team. Everyone wants to call BJ Coleman the second coming, but in reality it's the O line making holes you an drive a truck through. With 17 as the back up yhe future is bright for the Mos.

Not so fast Bobby. #17 was able to scramble neutralized the Chatty OL's inadequacy. With Coleman in, he gets roughed up more and lose by at least 2 scores

I think you're wrong. #17 was the 3rd string QB and he walked through holes you could drive a truck though. He didn't need to scramble at all.

This is why I think Georgia Southern has some issues. Coming into the game... I thought Georgia Southern had BY FAR the best defensive line in FCS. I thought there was no way in hell Chattanooga could run on them. Chattanooga only ran for 32 against Appalachian and only 56 against the Citadel. Their running game was nonexistent so far this year. Then they go and run for 238 against Georgia Southern.

The #1 D against the run has issues? Interesting. We were not prepared for the new QB. Should have been a blowout. Talent differences between the teams are huge. Monken coached his worst game as an Eagle.

Not to pile on, but as stated above, add to the fact UTC's QB was NOT a threat to throw the ball unless he was looking to throw interceptions. GSU had how many of 17's passes hit them in the hands and they dropped them?

Much less a point of concern compared to your offense that couldn't even score a single point against Chattanooga and didn't score the final 3 quarters and Overtime against this same GSU defense.

You saw what happened when our defense played against the Chattanooga team it prepared for the first quarter and a half...one first down two 3 and outs 2 sacks and a starting QB on the sidelines with a broken collarbone.

Our body of work from the Monken era speaks for itself. One bad 2 and a half quarters against a style of offense it didn't prepare for doesn't erase what our defense has accomplished over the last season and a half.

Your defensive coordinator from last year is also gone.

I also don't know why you bring up our struggles. I'm not denying them. They are there for sure. But, as bad as our rushing offense has been this year.... it is still the best rushing offense y'all have faced this year.

I'm just saying Georgia Southern has some issues and isn't invincible. Sorry for even suggesting as much.

True, we left at least 2 pick 6's on the field, but at least those passes were broken up.

Sorry, not even close. Unless they are playing NC Central, Savannah State or Jacksonville, App is average at best running the ball and doesn't have anyone even remotely as talented as Robinson. You can go ahead and bet the mortgage that Appy won't have over 200 yards rushing when we meet in 3 weeks.

I never claimed we were invincible or didn't have any issues, but those issues rest on the offensive side of the ball with a gimpy QB and the #2 wearing a cast on his throwing hand. Our defense will be just fine.

I read somewhere (maybe GSUFans) that GSU runs more of a double option look as they don't have all the parts to run their TO effectively. That interests me. I'm not sold on GSU having trouble stopping the run yet either. Robinson's ability to scramble somewhat neutralized the OL's ineptitude. Going into this year, I thought Wofford and GSU had the best front 7/DLs in the Socon and FCS. As the year has progressed, I think it's apparent that App has a decent DL as well as does the Citadel. If Wofford wins in the trenches, they win the game, no matter who you are. Not to mention they'll be pretty ticked off playing GSU.

I was at the GSU Chatty game and a few things emerged as pretty obvious:

a) It was VERY obvious GSU hasn't prepared to face a zone read offense. There were times when the QB pulled the ball and took off on a simple read and there wasn't a defender within 50 feet of him. That's not being prepared. Also, an o-line that hasn't been able to run the ball year doesn't get stuffed for two qtrs and then turn into supermen. There was a scheme advantage that coupled with some nice athleticism caused big problems for GSU. I wouldn't read very much into it.

b) GSU played like crap offensively, fumbled all over the field, had a few bad penalties, and STILL put up over 320 yards rushing. They also made the clutch plays offensively when they needed to when the score was tied in the fourth quarter.

c) Jaybo Shaw (knee) ain't healthy. He had several wide open lanes and just couldn't "get there." McKinnon (broken hand) was a non factor too so arguably two of you best three offensive skill players were less than stellar.

d) As for Shaw passing, the wind was blowing at least 20-30 mph steady all day.

e) GSU's d-backs (Stanley and Scott) dropped two easy pick sixes which, if caught, would have meant a blowout. The fake punt came the play after one of the drops.

f) Chatty should be proud of their kids. To lose two heartbreakers the way they did to App and El Cid, then fall behind by two TD's and fight back the way they did showed some heart. Kudos to them for bringing max effort and never quitting. #4 on offense and #45 on defense can play on my team any day.

g) 28 is more than 27. Period. Now on to the purple helmeted warriors next week...

Good post. I have no idea what any of our DE's were doing this game. All were out of position all game long. GSU's one weakness on D is our linebackers. Just entirely too small. We need to get bigger there in recruiting.

Just goes to show you that it's wide open this year - no dominant team(s).

Considering GSU only had a 15% chance to win, I'm shocked they managed to pull it off
