2 QB system

How do you feel about em? Southern is running one this year, I'm not really a fan of it mainly due to the way the coaches are handling it. What other teams are using this system?
QB stats:
Dray Joseph (starter) 65-124 52.4 999 yards 8 TDs 6Ints
JP Douglas 28-54 51.9 408 yards 2 TDs 2 Ints

I can't speak for all ASU folks, but I think some of us would like to at least experiment with some split time between Presley and Jamal Jackson. At least that way we could isolate whether the problem lies with DP or with our OL.

Montana fans somewhat feel the same way as you. On one hand, we have a true sophomore at the helm, and on the other, a junior who many feel is the best athlete on the team who until last week didn't get to see any playing time at QB.
I think many fans would like to see what the junior can do under tougher circumstances - played against UNC last week.
Outside of this, I am not a fan of 2 QB systems, especially in the Montana offense. I don't have any special insight, but have always felt our offensive system was more complex than the average teams. I am basing that on the fact our teams always seem to struggle to start the year our, while others run bread and butter.

If you have two QB's, you have no QB's.
Quarterback is a position that is all about timing, trust, feel, etc... they can't just be plugged in as easily as WR or RB or TE. This is something that UNI went through last year and it hurt both QB's (one ended up quitting the team after the season, which was best for the program for many reasons) and UNI looked like piss then entire year because it created a massive division in the locker room and coaches.
How many programs have won national titles, or even been real good, with a two QB system....injuries don't count as a two qb system

Griz went all the way to the NC game in '09 with two QB's.

I agree, I feel like Southern is doing it with no rhyme or reason, it's one of the reasons the team is 2-3 instead of 4-1. FAMU game he pulls the second QB with the team up two TDs in the third. Starter comes back in and immediately threw an int. I feel like you pick your guy and and let him go for it.

The more the merrier!
As long as yah practice it, you can do whatever voodoo you want in a game.
Throw the single wing and a flying V at 'em in between a pro set, wildcat and power I. Alternate QBs ever other play, or really fook with 'em and put both QBs in at the same time (before a rugby-style quick kick).
Bring back the Fumble-Rooskie and the center-eligible!

It's the o-line.
Presley is a
proven QB. He ran for 264 yards against WIU and threw for 361 against Villanova last year... IN THE PLAYOFFS.
Then, on the offensive line we have a walkon true freshman center, another true freshman (Presley's blind side tackle), and a former walkon at guard. It's as clear as day to me that the offensive line is the problem. Presley doesn't have time to look off of receivers, he doesn't have time to let plays develop down the field, we have no running game, etc. It's all on the offensive line at this point and hopefully they gel over the off week.

I thought there were times in all 4 games that Adam Morgan should have gotten reps (he's played in only 2 of 4 games, perhaps a total of 30 snaps). It would not have hurt VMI in those 4 games, obviously

That's where my suspicions lie also - according to appfan.com DP injured his shoulder vs. Wofford and may be questionable for El Cid. If JJ starts we'll get validation either way.

I played in a 2 QB system for part of my playing career. From my perspective it blew. I could never get my timing and there was no rhyme or reason as to when we'd switch in and out.

is Texas running a 2-QB system this season?
I don't really pay that much attention to the FBS, but they had the Texas/ISU game on where I was at Saturday, and I seem to remember the commentators saying something about it.

In general, clenz is correct. However, there are exceptions. For example, the most explosive offense in NFL history, the early '50s-era LA Rams, were led by the HOF tandem of Bob Waterfield and Norm van Brocklin, averaging 39 points and well over 400 (if not 500) total yards a game. Of course, they had it systematized. One would play the entire 1Q, the other the entire 2Q, and the one with the hot hand would take the entire second half. I'm not sure how many people could stomach that today.
My preference, though, would be a modification of this. The starter plays the vast majority of the game, but the second stringer goes in for one series (preferably during 2Q). This does two things. Immediately, it gives the starter to see the game from another perspective before going back in to exploit what he's learned. Long term, it gives the backup valuable game-time experience so that if the starter goes down late in the season or the playoffs, you're not shafted with sending in a backup with no recent game experience. I specify 2Q so that if the backup screws the pooch, the starter has plenty of time to fix it. This, of course, is supplemented by extra PT for the backup during mopup situations (i.e. the end of blowouts). To me, this does NOT fit the definition of a true 2-QB system, which is either run in a systematic fashion a la the Stydahar/Pool-era Rams or haphazardly as described by danefan. That, of course, is open to interpretation.

Texas is playing David Ash & Case McCoy (notable lil bro of NFL bro). Jaxon Shipley is the top pass catcher (Jordan's lil bro). They replaced Garrett Gilbert, a Davey O Brien Watch List candidate

as starting quarterbacks. Texas will play big brother Oklahoma this week at noon.

Norfolk State is doing that this year and doing it very well. I saw it in person. They have two very effective QB's.
They are good.
