W&M at Delaware - the "Run the Table" game

Two of the CAA preseason favorites find themselves in the same boat:
-2 losses each
-a victory over a D2 team
What that means: The loser of this game will need to run the table the rest of the season to make the playoffs.
High stakes for an early October game in Newark.....

Got to go with UD in this one.
One of these 2 teams is going to end up 7-4 and be left at home with only 6 Div I wins, cussing their AD for scheduling a Div II.

Yea, when you look at it, it's assinine scheduling - playing a FBS team (UVA, Navy) & then a D2 (New Haven & WCU) in a 11-game season.

Although, to be fair...those teams have beaten their respective FBS teams in recent memory...

Yea, but those wins are too much of an anomaly to justify scheduling a non-counter to "balance it out." That, plus there are probably plenty of counters out there willing to play that I don't think any team that has an FBS on the schedule should play a D2. And in my perfect world, we wouldn't play FBS or a D2 and play a winnable top shelf FCS game OOC, but then they would probably look to me for more money and THAT ain't happenin'...

FWIW, UD is almost .500 against Navy.

Fair enough, but as far as the NCAA is concerned, they are .000 against West Chester. Not that you'd disagree with me about the D2 scheduling, as I think every sane fan is not a proponent of those.

Yup. West Chester is gone after next year (or maybe 2013). The only thing worse is two pay games with no chance of winning either. With the expanded field, we don't know that a 6-4 UD won't make the field.

WCU has one final game in 2012 - that's it. Highly doubt a team with less than 7 Div 1 wins makes the playoffs - would need a weird year nationally, not counting on it.
Will be interested if Sasek is finally healthy again, which I think he is, who the Hens QB will be Saturday. It was Donnelly's job to lose but after throwing 4 picks in Orono, well he might've lost it... we'll see what KC says.

I'm thinking that one of these two teams will be out of the playoffs, and ODU will be in.
Which fan base will be eating Chesapeake Bay crow?

Apparently W&M, UD and Montana's AD's all went to the same school.

No doubt, but we're already having one. There are going to be a lot of teams that will be hard pressed to get to 7-4 this year (including UD).

Montana was 6-4 last year and didn't get an at large. There is close to zero chance of a 6 Div I win getting at at large.

Agreed - the chances of ANY team making it without an autobid & with less than 7 Div 1 wins I'd put at less than 1%.

UD could and should have bought their way out of this series with WCU years ago. It's stomach turning to think that that this game could end up having this kind of impact on us. At this point there's no sense in dwelling on it much though since we do have our destiny in our own hands. BUT the idea that this is our keystone sport and we're screwing ourselves over in favor of some stupid 'rivalry' with a school that doesn't even play D1 football, is just absolutely ludicrous.

William and Mary is going to be hard pressed to get to 5 wins.
They barely beat a bad Villanova team, and was less than impressive against an awful VMI team, and struggled to beat New Haven

I think Villanova is still dangerous. They may be bad and struggling, but they are still well coached with a lot of talent. Like EWU, ignore their record, they can beat anyone on their schedule.
New Haven used to be a great D-II program, and they are 4-1 this year. We'll see how things play out, but that result may not be as bad as many people think.

The insult to injury however is that WCUPA would easily beat DelSt.

No Div 1 school was willing to play W&M in Williamsburg in week 3. It came down to hosting a D2 or having 4 home games in a 10 game schedule. W&M does NOT have a history of having many D2 programs on the schedule. The last before this year was Wofford in 1988.

Yea, I have to admit I was surprised to see W&M playing a D2 since I couldn't remember them doing that recently. Didn't know the story behind it, but it makes sense. Nobody wants to play an entire OOC schedule on the road.

As someone already mentioned, W&M had no choice. A FCS team backed out and the Tribe had to find someone to play them at home without expecting a home & home. Most teams already had a set schedule so had to go with New Haven. W&M hasn't played a D2 team in years and I hope they don't schedule one again. It is what it is.
W&M fans won't eat crow because ODU is a good team and there's no shame in that. Also, had W&M played Campbell, GA State, UD, and UMass, they'd probably be 3-1, too.

QB controversy in Newark. Donnelly threw 4 picks last week vs Maine. Sasek coming off injury but is he healthy enough to run the full offense? Probably won't know until Friday night to kickoff...

That's crazy talk. ODU lost their starting QB with his 27 starts and are turning to a true freshman. We lost our #1 RB (Jr) before the season and just lost our #2 RB (Soph). Now we are turning to our #3 RB (RS Fr) and #4 RB (Fr). Our starting RG played last week with a torn bicep last week but not sure if he will last. We lost our #1 cover corner before the season and are relying on a true freshman to fill in (although he is playing OK so far).
This may be just the beginning of the injury train that everyone experiences. The problem is that we get very youthful when we lose a starter. We are now playing 10 true freshman.
Don't put us in the playoffs yet.

You guys just need to beat an improved Towson team and you're 7-1 going into the JMU game on 10/29.
Ending the season with JMU/UR/W&M will be tough, but you may not even need those wins. The fact that W&M and UD may have scheduled themselves out of the playoffs leaves the door wide open for ODU to fit in there.
