"The Cockpit" - the UD student athletic fan group is sponsoring an effort to get 5,000 plus students to pack the W&M game next weekend (10/8), even giving away $5K large to one lucky student.
Great idea to help pack the Tub and send the Tribe home packing an L.

Now if we can just lure back the 4,000 season ticket holders that have left...
It'd be nice to get a full student section. It's an uphill battle though. They cross the bridge to drink in the lots, not watch what they consider small-time football in the stadium. I got a unique perspective at the first home game. I took both my sons (mistake, but a valuable lesson learned) to the game and we ended up leaving toward the end of the first quarter, after nearly getting rolled by Chris Christie. Anyway, I decided to head into Newark and I was floored by the thousands of students still in the ice arena lot and hundred and hundreds making their way back up College Ave to campus. This was the home opener, so they were basically not even giving the game a thought.

My three year old was fine. My six year old, who has some issues I think I've discussed here before, was having a bad night.

So I watched the Youtube video. At the end the text says something like "no student ticket pickup".
Do they really still make students pick up tickets at the student center? That is so 1992. WTF? No wonder nobody goes, if it's still a two-step/two-location process.
Don't most schools allow a swipe of the Student ID Card anymore?

We get our student tickets online, it automatically registers to our ID, and then we swipe the ID at the gate. All you need is a computer and a minute. Simple and convenient.

At least their moving in the proper direction for the next game...offering kids money to come instead of giving out free Cream of Wheat to the old farts that can't make a bowel movement.

That's good.
When I was at UD (and some of the 40 somethings can vouch or whack me over the head if I'm remembering wrong), they'd give us a little voucher in our student mailbox at the beginning of the year. You'd rip off a stub for each game (and ask your roomies and friends for theirs if they weren't going), and then go to the Student Center and turn in the stubs for tickets. You had to do it pretty early in the week too, like Wed or Thurs IIRC.
If UD is/was still doing that in 2011, that's pretty stupid.

I forget with the stub thing but I think it worked kind of like that. I remember having to get the tix at the Student Center for sure. With this system it's nothing you need to do ahead of time, just have your student ID with you, show up at the student gate & its GA in the SEZ.

I'm four years in front of you and we didn't have vouchers. We just had to show an ID at Perkins to get tix. If you wanted to sit with a group, you either had to go together or collect a bunch of ID's before heading over there. My first couple years, our ID's didn't have magnetic strips. They were hole punched with your social security number.

They probably addressed the ID problem by issuing the vouchers. I distinctly remember ripping off little perforated "UConn", "UMass", etc stubs.
I also seem to remember not always sitting in the SEZ. Sometime you'd be in Section A or N, closest to the SEZ.
Again, it's amazing what 20 plus years can do to the memory, so I can't say for sure I'm right.

Less than a decade ago, it was as easy as sliding the magnetic strip on your student ID through a card reader when you entered. Somewhere along the way they got away from that for some dumb reason.

Do we have any current UD students on the board? I don't think so, which is telling in its own right. I'd like to know what the "student pickup" is that they mention in the Youtube video that is now not required.
Why in hell would we want to make it more complicated to get asses in seats? This administration boggles the mind sometimes.

Student seating (and the band) moved around quite a bit while I was there. Students were usually in A and B, but I definitely recall sitting in G for the Navy game freshman year. The band was low in B for a couple years, then moved to the SEZ.

I think it's a great idea to get attendance back in the 20K to 22K neighborhood that we've all been accustomed to. The Tub can be a pretty loud & intimidating place - even when it's not full. There is no argument that the UNH & GSU playoff games were by far the loudest games last year and that was with a less than half full crowd vs UNH & a just more than half full crowd w GSU. The ODU game last weekend had life on 3rd downs - hopefully the students along w the regular crowd can make the W&M game one to remember.

Yeah, band was low A or B when I was there.
I also remember sitting in the NEZ once or twice, but that may have been because I missed student pickup and/or wanted to sit with my dad.
Man, I miss me some Billy V running the Wing T.
