Will the CAA break up by 2011?

With ODU starting football next season (and CAA play in 2010), and Georgia State starting football in 2010 (CAA play in 2011), can a 14-team league survive?

They'll become two conferences, each with two good teams. Just like every other meaningful conference in America.dbackjon wrote:So what is going to happen, good colonel?Col Hogan wrote:Yes to the thread title

jon, there are so many different "proposals" floating around...but none affiliated with anybody with the power to make them happen...dbackjon wrote:So what is going to happen, good colonel?Col Hogan wrote:Yes to the thread title

Good to hear. No reason why Albany should not be at 63. And yes, with Albany's current team, supplimented by some more skill that additional schollies would have provided, who knows what they could have done.danefan wrote:Interestingly enough or maybe just coincidence there is supposed to be a CAA football meeting the first week in January (next week) where the future of the CAA will be discussed. The interesting thing is that after some repeated pressure by Albany alumns and donors we have been promised a public statement on the future of the Albany football program by the Athletic Director. This was spurred by a thread on AGS about the future of Albany football that was responding to a "what could have been" article about this season and what could have happened had Albany had the depth of 63 rides. The "plan" is supposed to be announced the second week in January.
The timing could be purely coincidental or maybe not.
Albany, IMHO, is an example to all those teams with no schollys or few on how to move up and be competitive...and Albany is not just competitive, they truely are becoming a force in the east...dbackjon wrote:Good to hear. I don't know...not me...dbackjon wrote:Didn't Montana get slammed by certain CAA posters for scheduling Albany last year?
Yes, along with the other cupcakes the Griz scheduled..dbackjon wrote:Didn't Montana get slammed by certain CAA posters for scheduling Albany last year?
No, it wasn't you. But it was done...Col Hogan wrote:I don't know...not me...dbackjon wrote:Didn't Montana get slammed by certain CAA posters for scheduling Albany last year?
Then that pposter's team hasn't faced Albany...and is stupid...dbackjon wrote:No, it wasn't you. But it was done...Col Hogan wrote: I don't know...not me...
That's always an interesting question...because academically, Villanova is closer to Richmond and William and Mary than the other publics...they have a strong (albeit nasty) relationship with Delaware in football...dbackjon wrote:What will happen to Villanova? Non CAA team as well...

They could be part of the "new" conference...or a third conference might form when the CAA breaks up...involving teams from other conferences (SOCON, for example)...
I think there will be lots of movement between 2010 and 2012 in the FCS, especially along the east coast...

All of these questions are being brought up a lot, and with the addition of 2 southern schools to the CAA, the geographical aspects of the conference are all outta whack. The unknowns are the hardest parts to answer. These 2 new teams are really a pain in the ass. I don't think Villanova goes anywhere unless it is up to FBS (ain't gonna happen). They may go to the "CAA North", but that is the farthest they go, as a Yankee, A-10, CAA football ally for the last God knows how many years, it would be tough to give em the boot IMHO. Not to mention it was an easy agreement to the CAA last year with Lacrosse being a CAA member already. Delaware will be an out of conference game even if the North/South split happened, so I don't think that rivalry is an issue for the future. I don't think it would be completely outlandish (assuming NE doesnt drop football) to see Villanova move to the North for a 7 team conference, and keep the south (- Villanova) as another 7 team conference. This could also open the doors for an addition to the north (Albany, Stoneybrook), and an addition to the South. I am just throwing ideas out there, as I obviously don't know, but that seems most logical. A 14 team conference is nothing but absurd, so unless the new comers or JMU/Delaware (with their stadium projects) are planning on moving to FBS in the next couple years, I see a "CAA North" and "CAA South, with new names, and now 2 conferences.
Edit: So i finally get done with work and get on here and you assholes are off doin god knows what with god knows who. Well go fu(k yourselves, how does THAT sound.

Quality does not just happen...one must post...think...then post again...
Good thoughts on the future...I hadn't thought about two seperate, but similarly named conferences (CAA-North and CAA-South)...could use the same overhead management of the CAA, but remain seperate in scheduling, etc...
Agreed...each conference would have to be a stand-alone when it comes to auto-bids, etc...the Management overhead would simply provide just that...Ursus A. Horribilis wrote:How do you think that would affect the auto bids if they were not two stand alone conferences. I think it would be a good idea monetarily to have there be one headquarters for a CAAS, CAAN type of a deal but that seems like it could be opening up a real can of worms if one Conference starts to perceive a favoritism by the main office or something with regards to playoffs and representation in the field. How would they handle the auto and how would they push another through for the other side quickly? Man there really are a lot of questions to ponder on this whole thing.
We'll give you citadel.....and western....Col Hogan wrote:That's always an interesting question...because academically, Villanova is closer to Richmond and William and Mary than the other publics...they have a strong (albeit nasty) relationship with Delaware in football...dbackjon wrote:What will happen to Villanova? SUUTbird wrote:Well why not just make everything simple and do this. The Big South Conference and the Northeast Conference are going to start getting autobids into the playoffs correct? So why not split the football only schools in the CAA into those conferences? Like add URI and UMASS into the Big South and put UNH and Maine into the Northeast? Geographically that wouldnt be to bad.
