How many of you knew...

...that there are actually 2 (two) FCS teams in Delaware?

Oddly enough, both of them are scheduled for home games in Newark next year. :?

To help everyone catch up, here are a few quick facts about the two schools:

A) the University of Delaware

- Clearly a top level football team in FCS
- One can get a great education at Delaware
- UD's stadium seats about 22,000 fans and has the longest streak in FCS for average annual attendance over 20K

B) Delaware State Coll....whoops...University

- Delaware State University is not a DII school, they just play in the MEAC so it may seem that way
- One can get a good cup of coffee near campus
- We don't really know how many fans it takes to fill the stands...it has never been done

As the week progresses, there will be more facts to follow...

wow, I hope DSU goes into Newark and just drive the Blue Chickens into the ground and beat them to a pulp.

Realistically, we all know the chances of that happening are very slim. :ohno:

yeah - but which school is too racist to drop a lousy D-II team from their schedule to play their in-state compatriot?

Are there any good chicken and waffle joints near Del State's campus?

I should also add to my last post that I actually want UDel to absolutely crush and manhandle DSU just because ODU gets the privelege of traveling to newark the following week to play them. Don't need the Blue Chickens to have any more incentive to play well.

NDSU?

I mean, do they have any black people in North Dakota and do they let Indians play on the team?

This just in...the DSU and UD BODs have refused to provide any more facts about their schools without an FIO request.

Their friends in the Delaware Senate also provided a notice that FIO requests need to be submitted in triplicate and, due to reduced state staffing during the economic crisis, requests can not be fullfilled for the next several years. :thumb:

Neither. Odd time to ask that, since they are playing this year. :?:

I remember the playoff game. All I can say is that all those red-clad fashionistas in the East stands should sit down and shaddup by kickoff. That's why God invented tailgating! Otherwise, you're blocking my view. Fo' shizzle! :tothehand:

There's a little part of me, being a downstater, that would like to see DelState beat Delaware some day.

I just hope that it's after I die, hopefully no earlier than 2050 or so. It's tough enough seeing Andy7171 talk shit about Towson's two-game win streak. Could you imagine DSURocks? He'd be hitting people in the head with bricks in Dover, and I only live ten minutes away (on weekends). It's a safety concern more than anything.

Btw, Rocks, if you need a free ticket, let me know. You'd have to sit next to me, but it would be pretty pleasant other than that.

I can see the Delaware State News front page on Sunday morning:

A picture of AP running away from Hornet defenders with the headline:

Black on Black Crime

What a great game. I hope all those people from around the country, many of whom probably couldn't find Delaware on a map let alone ever visited Delaware, are happy that the two schools are finally playing.

What's worse? When stodgy old white guys won't schedule you or when they are forced to do it by the media and then you have to lose to their school's football team 40ish to single digits with regularity?

For the record, I've always thought the two schools should play. But I have always taken issue with people who have no connection to either school making a big deal out of it.

If the games don't become more competitive these same people will criticize UD for having a weak schedule. I hope UD scheduled this game because they felt it was time and not because they were pressured into it by outsiders.

It was clearly media pressure, most notably the Pearlman ESPN Page 2 article, followed shortly thereafter by the ESPN Outside the Lines feature calling UD racist. KC went on the record yesterday as saying that he was told in 2002 by UD administration that DSU will absolutely not be on the schedule. I do not know if it can be found online, but I read it in the print edition (yeah, my dad still buys newspapers) of today's News Journal.

Somebody should tell DSU that UD is on the schedule, they obviously didn't show up yesterday. ;)

I've always rooted for both teams, but never wanted them to play in the regular season because one will lose and it might result in one of them not getting a playoff birth.

Both teams were good back in the day (DSU for a short time) and it would have been awesome to meet them in the playoffs. Since then, DSU has taken a nose dive. Although we met them in the playoffs, where the game meant something and, supposedly, both were good, it didn't turn out that way. The best would be if both teams were seeded #1 and #2 and they met in the championship game.

Both have achieved the right direction these days. And hope will continue in the same passion.
