UND @ Fresno State*

Things arent looking good for UND and wont until Black Hills State rolls into Grand Forks in a couple weeks. Right now the good news for UND is the fact Fresno St lost to Nebraska last week 42-29. UND lost 44-14 at Idaho.

Things start to head south from there:

Avg yds rushing/game:
UND 29 FS: 129 FS will control the ball on the ground all day long

Avg yds passing/game:
UND: 168 FS: 202 INTS: UND 2 FS 1 Expect a big day for FS. They may not have to pass much but they will get what they need

Pts/game:
UND 14 FS 25

Pts allowed:
UND 44 FS 39

I am using only FBS statistsics.

The glimmer of hope for UND: Get into scoring position to take advantage of FS red zone weakness. At the same time stop the FS offense from getting into the red zone because of the UND red zone weakness.

Secondly: UND gave up 304 yds passing last week. The Dogs put up 254 against #10 Nebraska.

There is nothing in the statistics to justify a call in favor of UND. They contained the run a little better last week giving up only 117 yds but the Dogs gained just under 200 against one of the nations best defenses.

I think FS is going to exploit the UND defense and shut down the UND offense in all meaningful statistical categories.

*FS > 45 UND < 10

You see Lakes, I had to go back about 2 pages to find this thread. Its fun watching them sink like a stone. watch this one go back down. Nobody seems to care, but why would they? They have a decent D2 team again. thats what you get with a D2 coach, and a coach without experience to boot.

UND may have said they found their man for the long haul. Even though it doesnt seem to be going anywhere there are a "fire truck load" of excuses favoring the Muss. Sentiment seems to be with him although popular support seems to be eroding.

I think Muss will be around for awhile. Even if he loses an embarassing game this year it wont matter. Idaho was an improvement. If you like to measure results UND was 14 pts better on offense and 1 pt better on defense. Keep that up and eventually they will win.

Saturday will be ugly. Its another great opportunity for a moral victory though! :thumb:

Yes, North Dakota will get man-handled by Fresno State just like UC Davis did two years ago. Fresno State may not be that well-known nationally but they are a good, competitive FBS team. I would think that even the top 5 FCS teams would have a difficult time with Fresno State.

Carr is tough as nails. I've seen that kid get pounded by Boise a few times and he kept on playing. :notworthy:

I like Fresno State. They're that bastard-stepchild team from the WAC that was an afterthought in the move to the MWC....much less pub than their more highly regarded conference mates, but they always seem to be in the hunt with 7, 8 or 9 wins...

Most Sioux fans agree this has the makings of a blowout. I thought our only FBS win would be Idaho, and we pissed that away in the second half. So UND will be 1-2 after this weekend, with an NAIA team coming to town so UND better take out their frustration out on that team be 2-2 before Oct 1st when conference play starts (UND @ SUU). IMO Mussman's job can only be saved is if we finish the regular season with at least 7 or 8 wins. We play 3 NAIA teams, 4 conference teams and Northern Colorado. We win them all that gives us 9 for the year but we lose the 5 games that matter (FCS) and UND finishes 4-7 Muss should be fired. I just hope and pray we can stay with Fresno State and prevent a 50 point blowout.

darrell "pissed that away in the second half."

no you didnt piss it away, IDAHO finally showed up. if Idaho plays like that for whole game it would've been 63-10.

Great job UND. I attended the Montana vs. Eastern Washington game and then caught the second half of UND's game on television. I am impressed with the strides UND is making. Keep up the excellent work. :thumb:

It was a good game. UND hung in there the second half. Exciting game for them but a loss in the end. When they went ahead it was looking all UND but Fresno scored on the next drive. It was far better than anyone expected and when Fresno scored on the first play from scrimmage it looked bleak.

At this point this season is a reflection of last season for UND. Last year they were beaten soundly by Idaho and then played Northern illinois close. This season same thing with a change to Fresno State. The big difference is the number of lower division games UND has this season.
