Ivy League Week 1 2011

Ivy League fans, are you finally ready for some football???

My picks:
Georgetown at Yale - Georgetown had some luck in beating Lafayette today, but can its luck continue against Yale?
Harvard at Holy Cross - Is this going to be the last game in this storied series? I am not sure of its status after this or next year. (We will replace you with U. San Diego in the future, with a vacancy to be filled up for 2013.) Tough call here, with Holy Cross beating once-ranked Colgate 37-7 today. Should be close.
Columbia at Fordham - OK, Columbia continues to struggle. Fordham was idle today.
Colgate at Dartmouth - forgot it initially, but can Dartmouth with their Preseason All-Americans outlast Colgate's consistent talent?
Lafayette at Penn - Obvious? Lafayette got dominated by NDSU and they lost a close one to Georgetown.
Brown at Stony Brook - Well, technically Stony Brook is in the Northeast, but their competition has leveled up with their membership in the Big South and they played tough at UTEP (however, they were dominated by Buffalo today). Let's see if Brown can compete with the Northeast representative of a "Southern" conference.
Bucknell at Cornell - Hmm. Bucknell has dominated their OOC slate thus far. Can Cornell stop the Bison's winning streak?
Lehigh at Princeton - Lehigh is ranked now (despite their loss against UNH in OT), it will be obvious that they can clearly dominate Princeton.

Ouch! No love for the Big Green a.k.a Indians of Dartmouth? Last I knew the coaches and players do not nominate themselves for pre-season recognition. What I see at Dartmouth is a program on the rebound. I have not heard boasting or bravado from anyone. Teevens took some shots for investing in this core group of 3 years starters and he hopes their experience will pay dividends. No one has forecast them for higher than 3rd or 4th and that is realistic but you never know. Unofficially they handled their business at the "closed" scrimmage against Harvard and beat them 24-21 with all of their "all-americans" watching from the sidelines.
I will be the first to admit that experience doesn't equal talent and that consistency has eluded Dartmouth over the last decade but this year they will turn the corner. Dartmouth over Colgate by 10.

Welcome, ivyisgreen! :thumb: Actually, bulldog and I (Yale and Harvard backers, respectively) both picked Dartmouth to win this week. Should be a good Ivy race this year.

Thanks for the welcome ivytalk and the Dartmouth win pick... We Big Green fans tend to be a bit defensive about our chances whereas we just recently climbed out of our role as cellar dwellars. I think it will be an exciting season with a great deal of parity in the top 4-5 teams. Would be great to see a race with a few teams running as the season winds down. BTW I agree with bulldogs picks. I will check in on this board as regularly as possible.

I honestly don't know how you fellas do it. Sitting through two effing WEEKS of college football with nary a game to be played, then no bye week, then no playoffs no matter how good your team might be.

Welcome to the board ivyisgreen! I see Dartmouth/Colgate as a close game, but I forgot about it when I first compiled the game list. However, I am more open-minded (and unfortunately biased) towards the playoff-participating opponents, so there.

Here's to a great (but short) season of Ivy League football! :thumb:

Yale 37, Georgetown 27
Holy Cross 30, Harvard 22
Fordham 21, Columbia 14
Dartmouth 37, Colgate 20 - I got it wrong! Dartmouth-Harvard will be a close one, I tell you.
Stony Brook 17, Brown 14
Lafayette 37, Penn 12 - Uh huh, surprise. Lafayette has learned so much from their road trip.
Cornell 24, Bucknell 13 - Wrong again.
Lehigh 34, Princeton 22 - As expected.

My record: 4-4

I was 6-2. But one of my wrong picks was Penn, so I'll sleep well tonight!
