Coming off a 16-0 win over the Drake Bulldogs in week one of the 2011 season, the Sioux travel out to Moscow, Idaho to take on the Idaho Vandals. Idaho is the first of two straight FBS tilts for the Sioux, as they travel to Fresno State the following weekend. Idaho (0-1) lost their home opener 32-15 to Bowling Green. They were picked to finish 5th in the WAC by Phil Steele.
Sioux in an upset and their first FBS win 35-31.

There is a chance for an upset, but I'm going with Idaho 31-15

I like your call Gil. Its intuative. This game looks a lot like EWU/USD with USD and UND playing the same part. If there ever were a chance for an upset this would be it. Whats it take to get the upset. Generally a good team that appears to be overmatched having a great day. We do have UND being overmatched but they arent a good team. Thats what makes me shy away from any upset talk. There is no evidence of an upset in the statistics or the spirit of the game.
Why cant UND get the win:
1) no depth
2) posititonal weakness
3) lack of overall team speed
Last week UNDs competition wasnt very good. Lafayette was a far better team yet UND only mustered a 16-0 win. A good team would have put up 40 or more. Good teams should do very well against weaker competition.
What stood out in last weeks win?
1) shutout more a sign of Drakes inability than overwhelming defense, but it is a feather in the cap and a good sign
2) Drake = 43 yds rushing. I know the rushing stats dont mean anything to EWU fans but that could indicate an improved UND defense or Drakes ineptness.
3) UND time of possession over 33 min
4) 56% third down conversion rate. Could be a sign of a weak Drake offense but again good sign for UND.
5) Good field goal kicker for UND
Why UND fans should be worried:
1) Drake put up over 200 yds passing, Idaho had 228 and generated points.
2) The UND offense was very anemic last week. 143 on the ground 137 in the air. That was against weak competition.
3) 12 UND penalties last week
4) Idaho had 228 yds passing
Ive made no adj. to my statistical analysis for strength of schedule. UND is on the road. UND wins by doing exactly what they did to Drake. Limit the rushing and make their drives count mixing the run and the pass. If they cant do that its over.
Idaho by 3 TDs.

Idaho by 3 TDs.
Tell that to Northern Colorado and Oregon State. Upsets happen all the time, and stats don't mean crap the week before if you can't play NOW!

And the drive stalls at the 40 - Sioux punt and the ball rolls into the end zone for a touchback.

Its 17-14 Idaho now. UND has been looking good. Idaho is starting to take control. They ended the first half with a beautiful drive.
UND is tackling a lot better.
They are starting to look a little faster.
They are good getting to the ball on defense. Not a lot of yds after catch.
Offense is imaginative and starting to click a little bit.

Very poor showing by UND in the second half. Outscored 34-0 in the second half to lose 44-14. Defense couldn't get any pressure, and gave up all sorts of yardage. Mussman seems to play not to get blown out rather than play to win. Disappointing showing.

Wow! Sure had to look down the page to find this thread!
UND looked good early. Faded. Not a good team. Muzz was manic when he had the 2 score lead. I thought he was the hockey coach for a while. Then, when things started to even out he got mad.

Can anyone report on what the Muzz has to say? I think he wanted this one real bad.
Early on it looked good. Rarely have you seen a more confident, and dare I say Cocky coach. Later, when things were turning the other way he became angry. The UND team is better this year though. Last year it was 45-0. This year the offense is 14 pts better and the defense is 1 pt better.

You should try measuring how big of an asshole you are. They probably don't have a number for it, and if they did you wouldn't be able to comprehend it.

We will see how Mussman prepares the team for yet another FBS team in Fresno State, who lost by 13 to Nebraska. Which Sioux team will show up the first half Sioux or the second half Sioux.

What do you mean which Sioux Team? The one that beat Drake 16-0 or the one that lost tonight?

The one that led Idaho 14-10 at halftime.
