Sam Houston State? For real?

Had the opportunity to watch my Leathernecks do battle with SHst on ESPN 3 on Thursday night, and I have to say, I thought SHst looked a year older, mature, and well coached. The Kats d-line gave the Necks fits all night which did not help the transitional development of our two new quarterbacks who were pressured into making some mistakes. The Kats qb Bell, now a year older and a survivor of the on slaught faced last year at Hanon Field spread the balll around nicely and was able to take the pressure off their running game and stud tailback Flanders. I thought the Necks did a very nice job defensively, bending but not breaking and if it were not for an offsides penalty and an interception in the endzone, the game might have been 7-6 at halftime WIU. Lack of offense and unbelievable heat basically resulted in a not so surprising 20-6 loss. How good is SHst? I would say much improved and on the verge of being a true contender for the Southland and a playoff berth. WIU, well without Matt the Magician Barr at the helm, a decision is going to have to be made regarding the qb situation and I think with the o-line, mobility is going to be very important. I guess the only true way to get experience is to take your licks while the clock ticks. I think the Neck offense will get on track this weekend vs. Jackonville on the new carpet. Hope we get SHst to come back to Macomb next year. It will be an absolute shootout.

ps. Kat fans, I tried very hard to get on Kats.com to chat with you but it told me I would be contacted by your site administrator when I was accepted. I had forgotten that I registered last year, so I may have created some confusion, but I really tried!

A few years ago Montana melted in the heat down there in Sept. and went down 41-29. SHSU looked like world beaters. Later, in the playoffs in MIssoula and 45 F, Montana beat them 34-13.

So, one team looks great in hot weather and the other in cold weather?

This just in; 45 F isn't cold for a football game. We can do a lot better than that.

If you live in Texas then 45 is plenty cold and 95 is refreshing based on the heat we've faced this past month.
