He had been suspended from the Ohio State team for the 2011 season for a third "unspecified violation of team rules" back in May.
I trust that the Duquesne coaching staff has thoroughly investigated the circumstances of Mr. Bell's troubles at Ohio State and are satisfied that he is not bringing unwelcome baggage to "The Bluff".
GO DUKES!

Mr. Bell was a 5-Star recruit out of Gateway High School in Monroeville, Pennsylvania in 2009. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
CORRECTION / UPDATE: Mr. Bell appears to have THREE (3) years of eligibility remaining. He red-shirted his Freshman season, 2009.

Needless to say, that's a monster haul for a program like Duquesne (or anyone, really). Here's hoping he's able to take advantage of the fresh start.

Indeed...no guarantee that he turns Duquesne into the team to beat or anything (as with any transfer, you dont know how they will do until they hit the field) but definitely a nice pickup

Duquense has the better FB program. 5 star recruits would rather not get an FB schollarship at their school rather than a scholarship at NDSU.

Just to be clear...
Duquesne offers football scholarships. The entire NEC offers football scholarships.

I know this, but don't let Lakes know that...he still thinks NDSU has only been playoff eligible for 2 years...

Great for Duquesne, hope he makes it and behaves. But, that's a heck of a change, going from the Horseshoe (and the Big House, etc.), to the NEC venues, but the field is still 100 yds long, etc......

Great get for the Dukes. I hope that more local DI transfers look at the Dukes & Colonials instead of jumping to DII (IUP & CalU)

Dorian Bell Joins Duquesne Football Team
Ohio State transfer currently practicing with the Dukes
The 6-1, 225-pound linebacker's playing status is to be determined pending the outcome of the ongoing eligibility reinstatement process that Duquesne has initiated with the NCAA.
Bell is currently ineligible for violation of an NCAA regulation that occurred while he was a student-athlete at Ohio State.
"We look forward to having Dorian as a member of our football team," said Schmitt. "I know it means a lot for him to be able play college football in his hometown. He will continue to practice with the team and continue his assimilation in the classroom as we await the outcome of the reinstatement process."
"I am grateful to have this opportunity," said Bell. "Both my mother and aunt attended Duquesne, so I am very familiar with the school and its academic reputation. Coach Schmitt has made it clear what he expects from me both on and off the football field. I plan to work hard to help this team continue to improve."

Mixed feeling on this.... I certainly am all for a young person gaining a second chance after making a mistake. This one sounds like it was pretty serious. On the other hand, I'm not thrilled with FCS becoming the haven for FBS bad boys. I guess each case has to be evaulated on an individual basis with the school making a decision that is right for the student-athlete and the school. Knowing Duquesne, I will give them the benefit of the doubt. I just hope there is a very, very short leash relative to this situation. With the right amount of guidance, this could work out to be a win/win for all concerned. I will be looking forward to seeing him at a future UD/DU contest.

What's wrong with second chances and new beginnings? Keep in mind that we're talking about young men who are often 17-20 years old. President Obama has basically admitted to smoking pot. Bush has had drinking problems and was a serial party rat at Yale. Even Charlie Sheen gets second chances.
