After a coaching search that lasted nearly nine weeks, Richmond defensive coordinator Russ Huesman is returning to his alma mater.
Huesman was offered the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga job by athletic director Rick Hart on Sunday and will be introduced as the program’s 22nd coach at a 2 p.m. news conference Monday at Finley Stadium, a source with knowledge of the coaching search told the Times Free Press on Sunday morning.
Huesman, who graduated from UTC in 1982, was selected over UT-Martin coach Jason Simpson, a former UTC offensive coordinator, and Lambuth University coach Hugh Freeze. All three coaches went through extensive on-campus interviews last week.
A four-year starter at defensive back for the Mocs, Huesman’s defense shut down Montana in the Football Championship Subdivision title game on Friday night, earning the Spiders their first national championship in any sport with a 24-7 win.
Huesman replaces Rodney Allison, whose contract was not renewed after six seasons.

I was going to say the same thing. The Mocs have to be pinching themselves and if Huesman can recruit the same athletes I could see UTC moving up pretty quickly.dbackjon wrote:Hell of an audition Friday night...

I hope Croom gets another chance somewhere - he had to deal with the mess left in Starkville.
