Congrats to the Griz for another great year.
Pretty classy post, Tom.

The Griz got completely outclassed tonight. Embarrassed, if I do say so myself. They were never really in this game, once they didn't score with 1st and goal from the 6 in answer to the Richmond score in the first quarter. BH got completely outcoached.....he departed from the Griz gameplan after not scoring on that first drive...in fact, he departed from the Griz gameplan ON that drive....1st and goal from the six, and after a false start, he THROWS the ball...WTF??? Richmond deserved to win this game, and the Griz deserved to lose....they were apparently intimidated, and kept trying to tackle Vaughan above the waist....NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. I thought the trickery on the first TD was bush league, but really the Griz were just outclassed (or outcoached, whichever). Either way, they were never in the game and it was apparent from the get go that they weren't going to win. The two turnovers just sealed an already established fate.

Congrats to the three Spiders fans out there...hell of a team you got there....living proof that they SHOULD have beaten the Dukes.....deserving National Champs, and not an embarrassment to lose to them.

Two plays really set the tone for that game, Mark. On Richmond's opening drive, we had them in a 3rd and 15 situation. We hold them there, game's got a different complexion. We don't, and they end up scoring. We get the ball back, drive easily down the field, and have 1st and goal on the six. Our left tackle gets called for a false start, and it's now 1st and goal at the 11. So, instead of an obvious running play, BH decides to pass. Incomplete. Run. short gain. Pass. Incomlete. Missed field goal. Now, instead of 7-0 Griz, it's 7-0 Richmond. Then, for some inexplicable reason, BH completely abandons the running game, even though it was painfully obvious that our O-line was being dominated by Richmond's two stud defensive ends on every pass play. They didn't even respect the fact that we MIGHT run, and were just coming after Berquist, ears pinned back.

Chase Reynolds had 24 yards on 6 carries in the first drive. He had 25 yards on 6 carries the REST OF THE GAME!!! :?: :?: :?: WTF? Cole Berquist, who hadn't thrown the ball more than 22 times in ANY of the previous four games, finishes with 38 attempts???? It's like BH reverted to the BH of September....We rode Chase Reynolds to 10 straight victories, and suddenly he's completely removed from the gameplan. I just don't get it. Now, I don't know that we'd have won that game, in fact I don't think we would have, but with the gameplan they employed starting midway through the 1st quarter, we were NEVER in the game. Yeah, the turnovers hurt, and the penalties hurt, but it was very perplexing to watch BH and Phenice's play calling and try to figure out what they could possibly be thinking. I don't know if they saw something on film they thought they could exploit or what. And what was the deal with giving Andrew Selle a series?

The whole thing was kind of surreal. Haven't felt that way in 10 weeks, and it was a bit unreal. To see the Griz get handled so easily was disturbing, and hopefully will leave a sour taste in all the underclassmen's mouths coming into Spring ball.

Again, congrats to Richmond and their coach. Hope, for their sake, they can hang onto him! :o

I had to go in the other room and watch Ironside because I was so utterly disgusted.

On the plus side, 2009 is looking like it could be a repeat of 2001 with the whole "road to the championship" approach right away. Similar to 8 years ago, the 2009 Griz will be coming off a year where they surprised everyone by getting to Chattanooga Also like 2001, the '09 Griz lose the starting QB but return a star running back & most of the defense. Andrew Selle looks to be the key as to whether this can happen or not.

Thanks everyone for the congratulatory messages...we certainly appreciate it. The Griz fans were just as cordial last weekend as they were out in Missoula when we played there in 2002. They root hard for their team and respect their opponent. We have nothing but good things to say about Montana and their fans - class act.
Richmond is a VERY small private school and we are fortunate to have a strong athletic department. It has been exciting to watch our football program improve over the years and we enjoy competing with programs like Montana. Good luck to the Griz - hope our paths will cross again.

Only if that D-End is a senior. Me thinks our O-Line wants NO part of him again. :o :o :o :o

You and me both. He wore us out in the quarters. Hell, both their lines dominated ours in the quarters.
