WCU Catamounts Bring New Attitude Into Fall Camp

ASHEVILLE — When you’re coming off a third consecutive nine-loss season, you don’t necessarily want to go into fall camp with the same mentality as the year before.

Perhaps, then, it’s a positive sign for Western Carolina that rising sophomore receiver Deja Alexander said the overall mood ahead of this season doesn’t even come close to resembling how things were this time last August. WCU players will report to campus on Tuesday and begin practice Wednesday.

“It’s the same team, but it doesn’t feel like the same team,” said Alexander, a transfer from Central Michigan whose average of 58.2 receiving yards per game led the Cats last season. “We feel like there’s a whole new atmosphere at Western,” Alexander added. “You could see it in the guys’ eyes that they’re ready to work when we show up at 5:45 in the morning (for voluntary summer workouts).”

Are there still 3 all-girl schools still fielding football teams? All I know about is El Cid & VMI....

I have to say that I admire your football players for showing up for games.

You must be paying them well.

It's a tough league this year with the Mountaineers, Terriers, and Eagles anticipating good seasons. All you can really do is hope for the best in early games because that sort of enthusiasm isn't going to keep on as it gets into late October by suffering 20-point losses.

I'm excited about WCU in 2011. I'm ready to see these 2 big ass Samoans that Wags and company got out of California. We are nowhere where we want to be, but we'll win more than 2 games this year for sure. New chancellor that has pretty much said NO EXCUSES FOR NOT HAVING WINNING ATHLETICS at a place like WCU. He's a Furman grad so he has seen successful football. Just saying........I'm ready. Will always support my Cats! :thumb:
