Appalachian State Eager For Another SoCon Football Title

ASHEVILLE —
Winning never gets old, at least not for Appalachian State’s football team.
If it did, coach Jerry Moore probably wouldn’t be quite so eager to begin his 23rd season of leading the Mountaineers. Appalachian starts camp Friday.
“I didn’t think it was going to ever get here,” said Moore, whose next victory will give him 200 at ASU. “We’ve been excited and been ready to go for a long time. We did a little recruiting and took a break after spring practice, then we do a little tour thing and visit some towns for 2 1/2 to three weeks. Then we hit that lull, play some golf, try to catch a fish. And it just seems like we didn’t get that over with quick enough for me.”

Unfortunately for Jerry, I don't think he's going to GET his next SoCon title this year.

True, we have a lot of underclassmen that will have to step up in a big way.

Which may bode well for 2012, but I think 2011 is GaSouth's year.

I will still go with Appalachian State to get their 7th straight SoCon Football Championship.
We have some big fast Freshmen coming in, but the larger concern is us switching to the 3-4 Defense this year.
"
One of them, senior quarterback DeAndre Presley, became the fourth player in Division I Football Championship Subdivision history to pass for 2,000 yards and rush for 1,000 more in the same season. He compiled 2,631 passing yards and 1,039 rushing yards last fall.
The other, senior receiver Brian Quick, has averaged 17.7 yards per catch over the course of his career. That has the 6-foot-5 Quick atop ASU’s record book."

What, did Quick have 8 years of eligibility or something? Jesus, it seems like he's been there FOREVER.

Nope, just a typical App State punk. They just paint em different colors and change their names. He has been there forever.

ASU has only won 6 straight. No matter what citadel fans think we have six banners from 2005-2010 and 1992 is a long time ago...

Don't see how one can be a champion when the team that TIED with you at the top of the standings BEAT you. If that banner doesn't say CO on it then it's a LIE.

You are talking about one of the years that Appalachian won the national championship and were co-champions in the SoCon. Remember also that that team that you mention also lost to a team that we beat. Each team can fly the banner since we do not have enough teams , nor time due to the playoffs, to have a SoCon championship playoff.
It's about time for The Citadel to knock off a few teams like they did with Arkansas a few years ago, and win a SoCon championship. Quit running your linemen around those swamps down in South Carolina in the summer getting them slim and trim and let them keep a little weight. At least feed them like crazy while you torture them to death.

The War was one of coercion of SOVEREIGN States exercising their right to leave a VOLUNTARY union which THEY created and delegated some powers to in the same manner in which they entered it. Everything else was secondary. Genl's Johnson and Kirby Smith were still in the field when Mr. Booth sent the tyrant to his master in hell.

Kirby hiding in the woods to avoid a traitor's noose doesn't necessarily qualify as "still in the field". Johnson was "still in the field" looking for stuff to give Sherman to profer a surrender that didn't involve him losing his freedom or life. And Lincoln may have been assasinated, but at least he wasn't wearing a dress....

Appalachian has been decimated by graduation, injuries, guys leaving the program and academic suspensions. IF they are lucky they will be fighting Furman for 4th in the SoCon and will need a 'gift' into the playoffs.
Now that I have that out of the way ...
Appalachian has a roster that is dominated by upperclassmen -- many 4th/5th year juniors/seniors. The 2009 'Speed' class is entering their sophomore seasons and will be called upon to step-up and take pressure off of #7, #8 and #84 in the passing game. The 2010 'Meat' class of RS freshmen needs to step-up and fill a few shoes in the OL rotation - prospects thus far are positive.
The DL rotation has the potential to be as good as any Appalachian has fielded in recent memory if they stay healthy -- a nice mix of experience, size and talented young meat. Same for the LBs but some folks need to step-up and cover for the loss of #21 to injury. Competition for PT among the DBs is high after a sometimes-rocky 2010 performance, but the mix of experience, talent and youth looks positive.
Hopefully with the proper attitude and commitment they will be competitive in the SoCon.

Breaks my heart to see these young un's who have been force fed the liberal Northern version of the war. Everyone knows the winners write the history books and done so to cast a favorable light on themself. Obviusly the most regrettable lie is how Lincoln fought the war to abolish slavery. Fact after fact reveals Lincoln sought a war that claimed the lives of 1/3 of a generation to protect the pocketbooks of the Northern fat cats who got him elected. Yet they still ignore the obvious. The War for Southern Independence was an economic affair and no amount of twisting or perverting the truth will ever make it anything other than what it was.

Someone is going to have to step up and beat App. this year. Can't let it come down to the GSU-ASU game.
C'mon Furples, you are past due for a win over App.

Come on Pwns....the best thing that could happen for ASU and GaSo would be to meet with both undefeated in the SoCon. That will be a tough road for both teams but would set up another epic game in front of maybe 35K at The Rock.

I personally don't see any team going undefeated in the SoCon this year...just too many talented and hungry teams this year.

Almost all wars are economics ones. There is a book by this title: War is A Racket by Smedley Butler. Go look it up. Good read.

Which may bode well for 2012, but I think 2011 is GaSouth's year.
Who does Ga Southern have on offense that you think can lead them to a title? I'm not seeing it. With App State you have Quick, Cadet, and DP at QB. Wofford has that nasty ground gm. In a couple years, Georgia State will probably surpass GA southern
