...Mascot.

Who in the hell ever heard of a team with an arachnid for a mascot. WTF's up with that? Ya know, I could see something indicative of the school's longevity...maybe a filthy cockroach...

...or representative of the program's integrity...maybe a weasel. :thumb:

...but a gut-sucking, eight legged insect that sh!ts sticky thread???

What? Was the first A.D. some spider phobic pussy...thought that might be "intimidating"...a bug which when seen by any humanoid male quickly becomes a wet spot on the sole of their shoe! You gotta be kidding me!

And for a pre-game smack...when most teams are doing Haka or talking smack...how does Richmond flex their muscle...by singing "Itsy Bitsy Spider"?

Richmond Spiders...lamest of the lame mascots.

Griz...be sure to wear you're stompin cleats tomorrow...it's time to put an end to this infestation. :bad:

OK, I'm back...

Whadda... :?

All the Spiders must be hiding from the crickets for the night.

Or, more likely, they drove down to Chatty in their Aunt's '73 Econoline...and Motel 6 didn't have internet. Oh, wait, I guess that would assume that they have one of those new fangled laptop computer thingies...and since Motel 6 rooms don't have dining areas, no chairs, so they can't figure out where to put the thing standing up? Maybe one of their smarter CAA kinfolk at one of them high falutin' rich schools up north can fig'r it out.

Take your time, I've got plenty of bourbon...

Dunno...looks like the Griz better be prepared to deal with that powerful "Spider" ( ) defense that

...only allowed opponents in their red zone to score 86% of the time.

...petrified opposing quarterbacks with a 1.9 sack per game avg. (with no sacks against VMI, Towson or UNI)

...and a vicious secondary that only allowed a 58% completion rate (103% efficiency)...WOW!!!!! They be some bad mofo's.

...not including Gtown & Delaware...holds an 8% total yardage allowed margin over their opponents. :o

Damn. No wonder the "Spiders" are in the C-Game.

Aw...C'mon...I'm just teasing you guys...

...you know I'm just kidding, right? :?

Friday nights' game, win or lose, I hope we get a chance to invite Richmond out west next year to avenge your loss.

Think of it...a bunch of probationers and ex-cons allowed to fly on an airplane...wow! Just remember to pack your shivs and ice picks in your checked luggage, not your carry on.

Hell, we're so welcoming out west, when you get to Missoula, I'm sure the locals will welcome you with sixty gun salute.

And Coach London, well, he's just another good ol' boy to us...right off the ranch, just like a gen-u-ine cowboy. Heck, we'll even lend him a set of duds to wear while he's out here...

Tman:

You mean lamest, period, or lamest of those with a FB team?

I think Richmond has some serious competition in that department from the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs and possibly RPI (whose athletics website I can't access because this library computer isn't rigged to accept cookies).

No...my nose isn't that large. I see the picture is gone now...oh well...my apologies if I offended anyone.

That pic came from an archive of old "Groove Tube" videos and stills. Back around '72, a bunch of NY comedy writers including Richard Belzer and Chevy chase did a series of off Broadway r-rated comedy sketches that were eventually redone as "The Groove Tube" movie. The movie was such a success, it's producer, Ken Shapiro, pitched for a weekly network comedy program which eventually evolved into Saturday Night Live. Funny thing is, despite overt sexual content, the movie would have been rated R except for the inclusion of the "Safety Sam" skit (last one below, which drove the censors to give it an X rating). If you've never seen The Groove Tube, a series of around 20 or so sketches, here's four of the best...but couldn't find the funniest, the "Koko The Clown" sketch, where a Cap'n Kangaroo style kids show starring Koko the Clown has a segment where all the "parents" are told to leave the room for "kids" reading time...then after "Koko" reinforces that all parents must be gone, he takes off his nose, lights a cigarette and begins reading Fanny Hill to the kids.

Chevy Chase, 2 years before SNL's first episode...

Spoof on old Dow Chemical PR commercials...

Another "Uranus Corporation" spoof...gross, but funny...

A long spoof on Kraft food cooking program...

...and (CAUTION, MAY NOT BE SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN, OR SAFE FOR WORK) the original "Safety Sam Public Service Announcement" sketch from "The Groove Tube" movie...

T-Man...there's no WAY that movie could have been rated X. I distinctly remember seeing that movie in the theatres, and I would have been 10 or 11!!! Was that the movie with the "Sex Olympics" skit as well?

Pretty sure...

IMDB has it as both X and R rated? I do remember when it first came out, it was given an X simply because the Safety Sam sketch (i.e., graphical display of penis [any genitalia] equalled automatic X rating). It's possible the motion picture industry eventually pulled it's head out of its azz and reduced it to R.

As for seeing it at a young age...join the club. I believe I saw it at the "Crossroads" cinema, a porn theater by one of our local Juco's...they played non-porn "counterculture" flicks on Saturdays. For obvious reasons, the management wasn't too concerned about age. And no, I never went to a porn flick there...from the eyes of a kid, the guys that frequented those were downright creepy...kinda like...

Creepy Example
