RS freshman WR from Lake Travis HS (west of Austin) (5'10", 175 out of HS)
Recruited to Rice by Jason Washington in 2010 recruiting class.
(Washington used to coach @ TXST, left and came back with Fran)

recruiting Bio - Named to Dave Cambell's Texas Football's 2009 All Texas High School team... Compiled 2,730 all purpose yards and scored 41 touchdowns as a senior for coach Chad Morris and played on three consecutive state 4A Division I champions. Lake Travis was 46-0 in his three seasons and finished 2009 ranked second in the nation by Rivals.com... 4A All State Honorable Mention by the Associated Press... Central Texas Player of the Year... Compiled ....Finished his career with 4,912 all purpose yards in three seasons.... Academic All District.

This kid is not on the 2011 Rice roster (was a RS on the 2010 roster) and he just hit me up on Facebook. His 'profile' states he is attending TXST (class of 2014).

I wonder if this means he has to sit out a year given TXST's "upgrade." Since he wasn't on a roster last year (or at least not on Rice's, it at least sounds possible that he could be free to play immediately for the real Bobcats.

Any budding NCAA canon law afficionados care to chime in?

I delved further and he is listed on the roster (a second one I found) as Experience HS.
He played in 9 games but only on ST. Had 1 reception for 8 yds. So he would be a Soph.

I believe we are classified as an FCS Independent, though we could be officially unclassified. If it stays as FCS Indy, he can play.

The QB for that Lake Travis team was current UT QB Garrett Gilbert.

Ok, got the answer. As we are transitional and will have 11 extra schollies, Erickson will have to sit out a year. (we are considered FBS transitional)

Had he transferred before June he would be eligible to play. (before the official NCAA sports year was over). I don't have the exact date. Seems our former coach (Bailiff) fucked us again. He applied to transfer in May but Bailiff denied it. It was appealed but by the time "the smoke cleared" he had lost any chance of playing in 2011.
