How do i become a highschool football coach? I want to eventually become a college football coach, and i know i have to get my graduate asisstant degree. But, it seems that you actually have to know someone to become a coach now a days. Is there a website or someplace where they list head/assistant coaching jobs?

I know others will have ideas, but depending on where you are located you can try to network on some of the rivals high school message boards. Usually coaches or people close to the program post there. It's a good start if you're in an area and don't know many people.

I would contact your local public school administration for any openings, or go to individual private schools ADs.

The best way to get into college coaching these days is to get there as you are getting your BA as a student manager, then get your masters and be a grad assistant, from there you can typically get a decent assistant job at a number of D2/D3/NAIA schools and work up from there.

That is the best path I have saw people take recently. Working from high school to get into college just doesn't really happen, if it does it takes way to much time. The other down side of that I see is that when you coach high school it should be about the kids, not about trying to move up. The kids will sense it is a job that you are only taking to try to move up and you'll loose them.

Clenzy made good points.

Also don't expect to make shit for money until you get a head coaching job or to a major program as an assistant.
