WAC will play with 7

The WAC will only play with 7 teams in 2012 as no FCS teams were extended invitations to the WAC. I guess that all of the moves up rumors are on hold for another year. It looks like the BSC is ok for now.

They were never offered. And to my knowledge no serious talks have even occured. The only schools that were truely considered this time were non-football schools. Feelers have gone out to many BSC schools and they have all declined at this point. WAc will wait a year and hope the economy is better for some schools to consider the move. I really hope to Montana and Cal Poly make the move but it seems like a pipe dream.

If Montana and Cal Poly make the move, they'd better take about half the BSC with them, because the WAC is a fucking abortion right now. :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:

Fullerton told the Salt Lake Tribune that the WAC has contacted 6 Big Sky schools about joining and was turned down by all of em. He also said he'd like to invite Idaho and Utah St. to join the Big Sky. Not saying it will happen, but it would be effing hilarious if the Big Sky ended up getting teams from the WAC after the WAC failed to lure teams away from the Sky.

My interest in Griz football will take a severe hit if we end up in that cesspool any time soon.

agree, with Boise State leaving the WAC is pretty irrelevant right now if you ask me. Who's the powerhouse in that conference now? Hawaii?

looks like Fresno St, Hawaii, and Nevada will be top dog until they go to the MWC next year.

I doubt they'll do it but Fresno St has Cal, Nebraska and Boise on the schedule. Win 2 of those and they'll make noise. Of course they've been known to drop a couple gimmies as well.

I guess if you're Montana or anyone else, the question you have to ask yourself is "will playing New Mexico State, Utah State, and UTSA and have the potential to play in a lower-tier bowl encourage our fanbase more than playing Montana State, Eastern Washington, and Weber State and having the potential to play for a lower-tier National Championship?"

IMO, the answer is no for just about anyone.

While I know EWU is not a serious candidate for the WAC--- and if the WAC considers them one, it shows just how ridiculously desperate they are--- the only trade-off we'd get is adding Idaho to our conference slate, which was once a big rivalry. But we'd dump a lot of other rivalries.

If Nevada, Hawaii, and Fresno were staying, it might make sense. But with them leaving and being replaced by Southwest Texas State and UT- San Antonio (I follow the FCS level and had no idea they even fielded a team) and some b-ball schools with no prestige, you're basically running to a corpse.

Yep. My point exactly in the other thread about Seattle being added to the WAC. The current BSC lineup looks a TON more attractive than the current WAC lineup...if Montana decides to move, they'd better take MSU, EWU, Weber, Cal Poly, Sac State and UC-Davis with them.... :coffee:

My bet is that they'd take more than just 1 team just for the reason of the title of this thread. The WAC this year is only going to be playing 7 teams. I think if the WAC wants to be a legit conference than they need at least 10-12 teams. Maybe its not the best comparison but we see how mediocre the Big East is habving only 8 teams.
