Best conferences

As a newbie to the site, I'm curious if there is any consensus as to which the best FCS conferences are. I'd rate them like this:

1. Colonial--- hard to dispute their depth and sheer number of teams that are legit top 25ers every season.
2. SoCon--- always formidable, but Chattanooga, Wofford, or Elon need to step up and keep it from being so top heavy.
3. Big Sky--- the top two, EWU and Montana, haven't had the same historical success as the top 2 in the SoCon (GA Southern and APP State), but across the board I think it is a little better conference.
4. MVFC--- obviously some good schools that can win playoff games year in and year out, buoyed by the addition of NDSU.
5. Southland--- only seems to field one team each year lately capable of winning in the playoffs.
6. OVC--- I haven't seen much of these teams in the past, but the level they play seems to be improving. SEMO and Jax State are legit programs.

Below that, there isn't much to choose from... NEC? Patriot? MEAC? Anyone of those would have a case for that #7 slot. As does the Big South.

Sounds about right to me. I'd put the SoCon and BSC as 2a and 2b.

I strongly considered putting the Big Sky above the SoCon because I think the Big Sky is #2 at the moment... but I deferred to the historical success of the two conferences. The SoCon still has a better resume over the last couple of decades.

Great West ? Cal Poly? SUU? UCD? Not historically significant but right there. All Big Sky members in 2012

I also would say the 2012 Big Sky is # 1

I'll go with this, although I think the Big Sky has basically been on par with the SoCon the last couple of years or so. Beginning with the 2012 season the CAA and Big Sky will basically be fairly similar in regards to the number of championship contenders in each conference.

So, if NDSU would have won the NC last year, the MV would be the best conference?

They didn't.

If, I said if.

Forget it. You are hopeless to have a discussion with.

Good thread in the works here. Leads down the usual path when conference rankings are brought up.

It’s the off-season. There isn’t anything to do but engage in pissing contests anyways.

Who cares, conference wars are retarded. If NDSU had not fumbled on the one-inch line/in the endzone, we'd probably be hearing about how overrated the Big Fluffy is yet again. So you're basically judging nine teams on one play.

The best CURRENT conferences are Colonial and BSC. Both have had the final two standing the last three years.... :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

Agreed. Heck, I'd go:

1A. Big Sky
1B. CAA
3. SoCon
4. Big South
5. MVC

with the 1A/1B and possibly 3 going over MAC/Sun Belt, and maybe even C-USA for football.
