Gridiron Classic on YES Network at 1:30pm

Just a head's up for those of you no longer posting on AGS.
The Gridiron Classic (aka Consolation Prize Bowl of Jacksonville vs. Albany) will be televised live on YES Network (available regionally in NY, NJ, CT, and PA and nationally on DirecTV).
The game is being televised by YES in conjunction with an effort to raise money for juvenile diabetes. One of the Albany D-linemen has diabetes and plays with an insulin pump (it just so happens his father is the VP of Operations at YES Network

).
Anyway, the game will be an NFL style broadcast with super slow-mo cameras and mic'ed up coaches and players.
Should be fun to watch.

Well this one was ugly and never really a contest. McCarty destroyed the PFL's best team:
271 yards and 4 TD's on 33 carries.
Ends the season as the nation's leading rusher with 1852 rushing yards and 356 receiving. 100+ yards in 11 of 12 games this year and 16 of his last 17 games going back to last year. He should be an All-American RB.
OH AND HE"S A JUNIOR!!!!!
Some post game reading:
McCarty enjoys classic Classic - TU -

Dolphins lose first bowl game - First Coast news -
http://www.firstcoastnews.com/sports/ne ... yid=125311
Its official - Pioneer League players are pu$$ies.
Jacksonville's offense had trouble moving the football all game. And with temperatures hovering at the freezing mark, it become a factor.
"I've never been that cold in my entire life," quarterback Josh McGregor said.

Oh and BTW, I hate the Gridiron Classic. Nobody cares about it. It gives the seniors another game which is good, but other than that it sucks.
FCS is about playoffs....not shitty second rate bowl games.

Glad to see that Albany won this. And that neither SD or Dayton made it

I think I understand you distaste, danefan...but don't dispare...
Albany is on the right track...building, playing up in their OOC schedule...
They will make it sooner rather than later...leaving behind the PFL teams that want a playoff spot given to them, rather than earning it the way Albany will...
CONGRATS on the win...

Is this really considered a "bowl" game???

as crazy as it sounds, it actually is an official NCAA sanctioned post-season game.

Which to me would make it NOT a bowl game. The playoffs are NCAA sanctioned games too....I guess I never looked at any of these post-season "classics" as bowl games....

Agreed. I believe you guys would have given UNI a better game than Maine did.

Who knows, but we didn't earn it on the field. The loss to Delaware did us in. Played 2 horrendous quarters of football in the 2nd half against Delaware and that was it.
I do believe Albany is a top 25 team though and was just as good if not better than some AQ winners (Colgate, etc...). I also think Albany would put a beat down on Harvard or any other Ivy school.

Man, please try to get a clue.... Since you are so smart.... Please provide a detailed analysis of how the OVC, PL and MEAC "earned" their autobids to the FCS playoffs.... I honestly feel less intelligent since I read your statement above!

I'm not.... USD or Dayton would have probably given the Danes a much better game if either team could have won the PFL.... McCarty would not have run for 276 or so yards on Dayton. He might have run for half that amount, but 276 yards is unreal! But, Jacksonville earned the PFL title and Albany completely kicked JU's butt. Congratulations to Bob Ford and Albany on a well deserved victory.
As for the top 25 relative to Albany. No question. If Albany is not in the top 25 in the final polls, another great injustice will have been carried out in the world of FCS.

Yep, just like I thought, you have no clue and no justification for your argument. About the only argument that makes any sense is that if you provide athletic scholarships, you have "earned" your way to an autobid.... Yeah, there is no corruption in that approach. The PFL has earned the right to an autobid as much as any conference in FCS. You may not like the league, but do not tell me we have to "earn" an autobid when the total of FCS conferences that "earned" an autobid is ZERO!

But didn't Jacksonville beat both USD and Dayton?

Steps to earn autobid:
1) Stop losing to NAIA and D-III teams
2) Stop PLAYING NAIA and D-III teams
3) Play scholarship FCS teams with the OOC games
4) Win against scholarship FCS teams
Schools like JU, UD and USD are doing better in that regard.
The rest of the PFL is not.

DF---your logic is ass-backwards. Instead of GIVING out another underserved autobid, the committee should INSTEAD take AWAY the autobids for the OVC, Patriot, and MEAC. Two (or in this case, FOUR) wrongs don't make a right. Using as your logic that "well, we don't suck any worse than THOSE guys" is weak at best. As Dback so eloquently stated in the post above this, stop scheduling (and in a lot of cases, losing to) D-II and D-III teams, fill your OOC schedule with CAA, BSC, Southern, Missouri Valley & Great West teams and BEAT them...then we'll talk....until then, you just sound like your pussy hurts.

Well, when the ever pure NCAA and FCS start taking away autobids, I'll change my tune. As for today, I stand by my logic 1000%! Not a single freakin conference in FCS has in any way had to "earn" an autobid. To say that the PFL has to "earn" an autobid is nothing but a big pile of steaming....

Eight teams did not get autobids...they earned them on the field, just as any PFL team could...
If there were no autobids this year...if each team had to earn it's bid on the field...there would not have been a PFL team in the 16-team tourney...because none earned a right to play...
As others have pointed out, stop playing down (DII, NAIA) and definately stop getting beat by those teams...
