YSU Spring Game Wrap Up

The White team (consisting of the 2nd team offense and 1st team defense) was able to knock off the Red team (consisting of the 1st team offense and 2nd team defense) 24-14 in a monsoon at Stambaugh Stadium. YSU's first team defense came to play and looked vastly improved over last year's despicable squad. What is good for YSU fans is the fact that the JUCO's coming in are expected to start on defense, so we may have some depth there.
On offense, Jamaine Cook continued to show why he is the teams best player, but local product Allen Jones earned the player of the game honors with 160 yards on 12 carries and 2 touchdowns, including one from 94 yards out. He was in the #4 spot on the depth chart coming in, but some are thinking he may have hopped ahead of Bellamy and Pace to take the #2 spot.
Hess looked pretty good, but redshirt freshmen QB Patrick Angle, a kid I raved about when we signed him, was by far the best QB on the field today. He is going to give Hess a major run for his money this year. He has a better arm, is more accurate, and is more mobile. Hess will have to play lights out to remain starter this entire season.
Punting game was tremendous. Kicking game, although the kid made all his kicks, is still a MAJOR concern area. The kid has been missing all spring and will need to adjust to kicking at Stambaugh Stadium.
Overall fans had to like what they saw despite the numerous turnovers. When I say it was coming down like a monsoon, I am not lying. It was coming down as heavy as it does in a severe thunderstorm, just without the lightning and hail.

Are where we want to be? No. However, we are definitely much further ahead now than where we were at this point last year. Still thinking 7 wins is a good estimate.
