Idaho State on the rise

Not that Idaho State has the Big Human as coach I would expect them to rise up form the bottom of the Big Sky to be a contender in a few short years.

I agree, but I doubt we'll see a significant improvement in 2011 or even 2012. :twocents:

Well no shit. I was thinking in 3 years he will have his playbook and players in sync and be putting a good product on the field. I can see the Dome being a rockin' place to play in years to come.

I agree, it may take them a few years but I think under Kramer they will begin to turn things around. Anyone know what type of offense/defense he will be installing at ISU? And on another note I am happy to see that it seems they may be returning to orange jerseys based on a few pics off their website, always liked those much better then the black ones. :thumb:

Kramer should schedule Chadron State as soon as possible to launch his third career. 8-)

Seriously though, I believe Northern Colorado hired the best new coach in the last year, but I know there is no way to prove it at this juncture.

when you've been as bad as ISU has been for as long as they have... isn't there only one way to go?

Not really, you can always stay right where you've been.

I too think that good things will be happening for ISU. Kramer is a serious fella with a good plan and he has proven himself able to rehab programs in the past. When he comes into a new program you can expect a couple of things. There are gonna be defections of some of the Jr's & Sr's between spring ball and the start of fall camp. He will puge ISU of anyone that does not have the ability to carry water in his system.

You will see a lot of very young players on the field this next season. This will appear to be the same ol' ISU but the foundation will be a work in progress that is a breeding ground for very experienced, tough, don't give an inch type of players that Kramer looks for.

By his third year I can see a 6-5 type team but in the 4th & 5th year they could be a very scary opponent that plays good sound football that covers it's weaknesses well.

Now how the school and community get behind what he's doing could be a problem that derails the whole thing or at least impedes it.

I think he has the same OC that he had while at MSU, he will need a QB with a big arm and a dropdown WR or 2.

Actually Kramer took a different approach at ISU and tried to re recruit most of the junior and seniors. He admitted he pushed too hard and too fast at MSU in regards to his first two years there.

Kramer is very good at selling the university and his football program. His biggest obstacle is dealing with some APR issues. I think they are down 6 or 7 scholarships and it will take them some time to come out of that. I believe they are in worse condition than what MSU got into. From the sounds of it most of the players he is recruiting have to meet a grade of SAT score higher than that required by ISU, or the NCAA. It is the only way to dig their way out.

As far as offensive system picture a fast paced offense that will resemble what Oklahoma State does. A play every 11 seconds, with heavy emphasis on short to intermediate passing attack.

As far as defense goes, expect Kramer to try to play a lot of pressure defense with emphasis on man to man coverage...which he will run until he gets burned. I don't know what players he has there but I think you will eventually see a 3-4 or 3-3-5 scheme out of ISU in the future. Kramer will blitz a bunch.

Also the Roll Punt from the starting QB is now back in the cards. They also have Kragthorpe's (college coach) son as an incoming freshman QB.

As bad as ISU has been they almost pulled off beating the Griz two years ago and almost beat the Bobcats last year.

It's a much easier sell when you are selling Bozeman versus Pocatello IMO.

Wasn't even going to mention the airplane hangar football venue, but guess I just did.

Good insight, I hadn't seen that he had a change of heart on how he approched it at MSU. Totally agree with your O & D analysis as to what he's gonna try and do. He doesn't mind gambling a bit and he picks spots to do it that seem to work out more often than not.

Believe it or not, it is. Think of it as a peek into being the first kids on the block on the east coast that there is a real possibility of Idaho State rising out of the shit pile.

Eh, I picked them as a dark horse 5-6 years ago after a couple good years and they made me look foolish, which is something I certainly don't need help with.

kramer was the best choice for ISU, if anyone can win there it'd be him. Personally I'd love to see the Bengles get out of the funk they've been in the past several years. just think it's going to take Kramer at least 3-4 years to fix their apr issues and make them competitive. it'll definitely be a struggle as i have got to imagine it's pretty difficult to get kids to come play in pocatello. the kids they recruit are really going to have to by into the system whole sale.

edit: why is the word fu nk censored? weird. :)

If you leave it on, words that start with 'f' and end in 'k' will get censored.

It is, but I understand your point. One only has to see what the programs at EWU and Montana State were before Kramer got there and the job he did at both. If a conference is only as strong as its weakest link, well the Big Sky "weakest link" got the best possible conference coach out there. Because of what happened at MSU, he may change the type of student athlete he recruits, but I doubt he will change his intensity. Kramer knows how to win in the conference and that is what ISU needs now.

No I haven't, but I take it he is a rather large man.
