Notre Dame, USC and UCLA last holdouts from college football's cupcake feast
http://www.oregonlive.com/collegefootba ... ast_h.html

"A tiny fraternity of college football teams will dwindle to three next fall, as Washington lines up to play, for the first time, a program in the Football Championship Subdivision.

Notre Dame, UCLA and USC still never have soiled their schedules with a team in The Division Formerly Known as I-AA. But hordes of the nation's 120 Football Bowl Subdivision teams have made such matchups as common as texting in traffic, with the nation's most prominent conferences leading the way..."

So no one complains about the big boys playing the Miami Ohios, the Florida Internationals, and the San Diego States but playing the defending FCS champs is a disgrace?

I'm so going to be a big EWU fan on September 3rd.

See: Backlash from SDSU vs. Nebraska post game and then tell me how the defending champs can be taken as a cupcake :dunce:

San Diego State was 9-4 last year, beat Navy bad in the Poinsettia Bowl and had 4th quarter leads over top ten TCU and Utah. They were anything but a cupcake in 2010.

Being labled a "cupcake" (no matter how accurate or inaccurate the description may be) doesn't feel too good, does it?

Refer to: The Golden Rule

Why do female sportswriters in particular feel the need to lambast the "little sisters of the poor"?

This chick and the "I'll jump out of the press box if Va Tech loses to App St" woman would make a good pairing.

T-Dog: that crack was actually started by a typical idiot MALE, namely one Gordon Gee, who somehow gets to be president at Ohio State.

I wasn't thrilled with the comments attached to the article, as they labeled the academies as "creampuffs." All three made bowls last year, and Navy has been good ever since they snagged Paul Johnson from GA Southern in the mid-'90s. In addition, that 40-year losing streak to the Domers is ancient history as Navy has won three of the last four. (Incidentally, that streak wasn't all it was cracked up to be, either. It took some luck and some bad officiating at times to keep that up. There were at least four close calls in there that were propped up by either a lucky hit or idiots in striped shirts.)

What really gets me about this chick is the day before she wrote an article about how Portland State Football playing FBS teams is helping the women's teams be successful.

http://www.oregonlive.com/vikings/index ... tball.html

"The women's teams at Portland State are all about producing hardware. Including the resurgent basketball team, in the past three years the Vikings have captured conference titles in five of nine women's sports.

But when it comes to bread-winning, Portland State is similar to its higher-division brethren: no program comes close to football.

Portland State earned about as much playing one football game against Oregon last season ($400,000) as it did for an entire season of women's basketball -- and nearly as much as for a season of men's hoops. ..."

Wow, an entire thread to expose those posters who suffer from "FBS Wannabeeism". I'll have to take note of those afflicted so I will have a good idea who will be bashing the PFL again this year. So sad....

Let me know when folks start saying a top PFL team is an easier opponent than, say, a lower-tier OVC or MEAC team. :coffee:

Weren't EWU fans claiming they were gonna roll cupcake CWU last year? FCS fans are (can be) hypocrites

Not me. I said they'd give us a battle but we'd pull away and win comfortably. I ate some crow. CWU is the Montana of D-II though.

I'll also wager that Montana fans' predictions against Western Oregon will be similar to the predictions Vols fans have made for their game against the Griz

The Montana of DII? More like the Wofford of DII, solid program but not a powerhouse.

Yup. There was a heated discussion on our message board last year about the risk factor in playing a quality non-counter like Central with nothing to gain and much to lose. CWU gets a number of PAC 10 drop downs, has talent, and would contend for several FCS conference titles.

Perhaps the little writer should ask Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, and Michigan how cupcakes taste...

Yeah. I kinda hesitate to put them even on a par, much less above, the likes of Grand Valley and TX A&I.
