CHARLESTON, S.C. – On Friday, the Charleston Southern football program held the first of three scheduled scrimmages. The scrimmage marks the sixth spring practice, and just the third after coming back from spring break.

It is the first time under Coach Jay Mills in which the Bucs have started spring practice before spring break, putting the team through three practices before giving them a week off.

“I like spreading the 15 practices over five weeks because I want to go intense and I want to be physical, but I also don’t want to go every day and risk the wear and tear because it is a violent game, obviously,” said Mills. “The other thing is that in the spring you have fewer bodies than you have in the fall camp and during the fall season so we have to be careful with how much we hit them. So far I’m very pleased with the way it’s worked out. The guys came back and were enthusiastic and are good character young men and have been a pleasure to work with.
