Guys, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this interaction just resulted in a violation of NCAA rules.
I actually didn't take that as being slapped with a violation. I understood is as the compliance dude saying it simply resulted in a violation. I can smoke weed and it'd result in a violation of the law, but it doesn't mean I'm slapped with anything. But I guess WSU will report this just to be safe. Anyways, these ticky tacky NCAA rules are ridiculous and bordering on ludicrous...hopefully nothing happens to WSU, even if it's insignificant. Any punishment would be undeserved.

Does that rule really apply to recruits who have signed their letter of intent? I don't think there was any violation there, plus it was on a fan board and you can't really prove that anyone on a fan board is a booster because they are all anonymous.

A person remains a recruit until they attend class or until the beginning of team practices, whichever comes first.

A fan is considered a representative of a school.

A prospective athlete is anyone who has begun classes in the ninth grade.

The recruit identified himself as a recruit who will be reporting June 13th, therefor it is a NCAA violation once a fan responded to that athletes post.

I am sure Weber State will if they haven't already report the incident. The incident at 9:23 AM on Monday.

I suppose, then, that that 8th grade QB who signed with U$C doesn't count?

Wow. Assuming the unnamed recruit on the message board really is who he says he is, he puts up a post saying he is excited about coming to Weber, an anonymous Weber fan replies saying they're excited about having him, and that, apparently, is an NCAA violation. :ohno: I guess if I see any prospective recruits being shown around Missoula on any of my trips over there, I will have to make it a point to avert my eyes and avoid saying hello. :ohno:

Kudos to Weber's compliance official for signing up for a user name on the message board. It might seem like a waste of time at first glance, but if this really is a technical violation it will probably help to be able to tell the NCAA that the school took it seriously enough to sign up for a user name and warn off the message board fans.

I just had a brilliant idea for how to ensure the Bison win the MVFC for years to come... *runs to sing up bogus email accounts/web forum accounts*

Contractual Violation? Oh please.....it is a freaking message board. To think a violation could never happen on here is laughable. Before you place your foot in your mouth, why don't you contact Jean Gee, the UM Compliance person, and see what she tells you. You have NO IDEA what hits her desk on a DAILY basis. She puts fires all the time, because of people who don't think anything they do could possibly be wrong.
