The Summit Owns the MVFC

The Summit has a legitimate threat to start its own football league. Unfortunately to do that the MVFC would be decimated. With the apparent addition of UNO to the Summit the threat grows larger.
Inexplicably USD was admitted to the MVFC taking it off what had been the magic number of 9. I think the threat of Summit football was the leverage. The addition of USD to the Summit made the threat even more credible, enough so for the MVFC to invite USD.
With UNO apparently on the verge of a Summit invite the MVFC is once again being faced with the specter of Summit football. Is UNO going to the MVFC? Its a lock. The NCC rules the MVFC and the Summit.
Its a legacy!! The MVFC and the Summit are de-facto twin leagues, far more than the MVFC and MVC.

Welcome "good bison fans"!
After a year of talking about Summit Football on many forums the underlying dynamics of the politics is becoming clear: The Summit owns the MVFC and UNO is a lock.
The two leagues are joined at the hip as long as the MVFC wants to be the MVFC and not Summit league football.

someone give him the MWC whacking the WAC plan. MWC=MVC, WAC=Summit. Summit starts fb, MVC invites NDSU and SDSU as full member. Summit football dies in 1 day.

There are similarities to be sure. Obviously the Summit has leverage and it appears the Mighty Dakota Land Grants are in the drivers seat.

I would really like to see that happen. It would be a step up in competition, plus it would put 7 teams in the MVC that are full members. NDSU shouldn't move til they get rid of the embarrassment that is the BSA.

Do you really think that the Summit would start football? Even with the "possible" additions of UNO & UND

I dont think the MVC is going to budge. Its much easier for the MVFC to acquiesce to the pressure because expansion of that conference makes sense. UNO and USD both are prepared to enter the realm of the FCS but are not at all ready to compete in the MVC either from a facilities standpoint or program readiness. NDSU and SDSU are also marginal.
The Summit is the spot for these teams and its the MVFC that is having to expand, not the MVC. Summit football is a pretty big bargaining chip and its likely the MVC gives a hoot.

I don't think Doug Elgin and Patty V that are worried right now about Summit League football.
It would be very stupid of the Summit schools to step away from the MVFC on many levels.
I did like the comment about none of the summit schools being on par with the MVC facilities though. It's probably pretty damn accurate. I've never been to BSA, but I've been to the Jack's home court (name escaping me right now) and it would by the worst basketball facility in the MVC by about 50 miles.

The BSA is even worse.

I'm trying to think which school has the worst basketball arena in the MVC. Evansville is opening a brand new - amazing looking - arena next year. UNI's arena opened in 06. SIU was probably near the bottom but the renovations were amazing from what I hear. MSU just opened a new place. Creighton uses the Quest Center....DRAKE
You might be close to Drake. The Knapp center SUCKS BALLS
NDSU - Bison Sports Arena
SDSU - Frost Arena
Bradley - Carver Arena
Creighton - Quest Center, 17,000
Drake - Knapp Center, 7,000
Evansville - Robert's Arena, 11,600 (closes after this season)
A rendering of the new Evansville Arena
Illinois State - Redbird Arena, 10,600
Indiana State - Hulman Center, 10,200
Missouri State - JHQ Areana, 11,000
UNI - McLeod Center, 7,200
SIU - SIU Arena, 10,00
Wichita State - Charles Koch Arena, 10,500

NDSU would have the worst if they were to be in that discussion. The new arena they are planning can't come soon enough...

The new arena at NDSU will be inadequate as planned too. Its only going to have 6,500 seats. Not much room for growth.

The new arena will be similar to UNI's, it will be perfect for NDSU basketball.

Perfect for NDSU basketball today maybe, but what about 5 yrs from now? At 6,500 seats its about 2/3 the size it needs to be if there are aspirations of growing the program to MVC standards.

Let's try to sellout out our home games before we think we need a 10,000 seat stadium like those in the MVC. Their design of the new arena will be perfect for what is needed here.

In JBB's mind we might as well break the bank and build Big 10 facilities, as an invite is imminent...
