this was such a fun thread 2 yrs ago for those that remember so i though i'd start a new one and VERY early. wsu vs wyo is our opening game in sept.

i think weber will win. wyo is back to the craps. :thumb:

2 yrs ago Weber lost at Wyo 29-22. Weber threw 5 picks and in the final minute were driving down the field hoping to tie it up for OT. Wyo went to a bowl that yr.

The thought of WSU beating Wyoming would make the first half of our schedule look really tough. :|

I doubt it, though Wyoming is certainly bad enough to lose to an FCS team.

Cam Higgins was the one who threw the 5 picks and we lost by 7, now think about not having Cam Higgins not throwing 5 picks, and with Weber having one of the better Big Sky recruiting classes...well its possible, I will also say I think Weber will have a better shot at beating Wyo in week one than beating USU in week 2, but I would rather beat USU :thumb:

You probably have a better shot of knocking off Wyoming than we do of beating Washington, or Montana beating Tenn. :thumb:

That said, Weber might have had one of the better recruiting classes, but how many of those recruits do you think will make a significant impact their first year?.....how many will even play as true Freshman?

Weber has a shot, but with no proven QB, it's probably a stretch. Love to see it though, always rooting for the conference brethren to knock off an FBS.

1. Washington is still likely down a bit, so I wouldn't rule out the REAL National Champions in that one.

2. The fact that Weber doesn't have a "proven" QB cuts both ways: There's probably little to no film on him, so Wyo may have a tough time defending him.

3. TN is ALSO down, but their "down" isn't as far down as Wyo or Washington. Montana has a chance, but it's MUCH more of a stretch than Weber or EWU.

  Sac has NEVER played well in Ogden. This year in Ogden will be no different. 1-2 for WSU I can see, but 0-3 NO way in HELL.

Weber gets all of thier defense back, offensively they were a little more hurt losing just about all our playmakers, but we still get our whole offensive line back who was arguably the best in the conf, and Mike Hoke who I think is actually a really good QB, (led Weber to a come from behind victory at NAU and almost did the same at MSU after Higgins went down) He is a good passer, and he can run, something Higgins couldnt do. We will have a duel threat from our QB which is something Weber hasnt had in like ever, we did recruit the #1 running back in the state of Utah and we got a really good reciever out of Nevada. I think Weber will be good this year, Well im hoping at least, but I do think we will be good enough to beat Wyoming.

As WR pointed out, WSU has a lot of voids to fill on the offensive skilled positions. Conversely we have a lot of skilled position starters returning on offense. Will home field advantage be enough to overcome this? Will the players WSU has step up and fill the voids? We shall see in about 27 ssshhhhooorrrrrttttt weeks. I do hope that WSU and its fans come into this matchup overconfident just like last season.

And for the record, even though I don't think WSU will win either FBS game, I will be cheering for you guys. :thumb:

You might want to be careful with the global superlatives. Quite often, they end up not being true. That's the case here. Sure, if you look at just the record, one sees Sac as 0-7 in Weber. But if one removes the bookend blowouts (1997's 52-17 and 2009's 49-7 schellackings), one sees that Sac has played in Ogden fairly well. (Though, admittedly, the gap has been growing. The five middle losses average to a point spread of about ten and a half points. In other words, a two-score game. That's it. 1999 and 2001 were even better (Weber won in 1999 by a mere FG and in 2001 by a TD.)

So be careful about going global. You're likely to be wrong.

Wyoming has never lost to an FCS team. Ever. Wyoming defeated Furman in 2001, Furman went on to play in the 1-AA championship. Wyoming finished 2-9 that season. Wyoming returns several starters on offense and defense. Weber is now without Cam Higgins, who was beat to shit after his last trip to Laramie.. this new QB will likely have the same problems keeping upright. Wyoming is also breaking in a new OC.. he's pretty good, an upgrade over the previous OC who was very inexperienced. Last time these two teams played Wyoming dominated the game for 3+ quarters, Weber had 5 turnovers. It wasn't close last time, and I doubt it'll be close this time. Pokes should be 3-0 heading into a game vs. Nebraska at home. I kinda really dislike that we have two FCS teams on the schedule, but with Boise joining the conference and Utah/BYU bailing it left a schedule hole and Texas State was the best they could do..

And? What does that have to do with anything? It probably stands to reason that there's more than a few FBS teams that hadn't ever lost to an FCS - until they did.

Yeah, it's probably fairly unlikely Weber will pull off an upset in what could be a "down" year for them having to find a new QB and several key players. But let's not act like it's outside the realm of possibility for a program like Wyoming to get beat by an FCS. I'd give the upper 3rd of the Big Sky a shot at taking them down in any given year.....that goes for Colorado State, UNLV, New Mexico out of the MWC as well, along with the majority of the current WAC. The talent level is just not that much higher in lower level FBS teams. Big difference, as we all know, is in the # of schollies.

I went to the Weber versus WYo game a couple years ago in Laramie and really cheered hard for the Wildcats but because of how some of the fans really disrespected us during the basketball season, I might go for the 'Pokes.
