Are there any automatic qualifications or disqualifications in getting a seed?
If you don't win your conference title is that a DQ?
If you finish ranked in the top 4 in the FCS poll is that automatically get you a seed?

Not winning your conference is not a DQ if there are two bids from the same conference.
The NCAA committee hands out the seeds. They take the polls into consideration, but I think other factors are considered. Polls won't automatically get you a seed.

The committee just picks what they think are the 4 best (eligible) teams, period. I don't believe there are any considerations beyond that.

I read on eGriz Coulson said he has never seen a team that didn't win its own conference get a seed.
N.Iowa and UM both lost a conf game and are still ranked the highest in teh top 25 out of their conferences. Interesting...also Poly is above UM and lost to them but not in the same conf.

SIU finished 2nd in the Gateway and was the 4th seed last year. Gotta believe it's happened with SoCon and CAA teams as well.

UNI finished 1st and was seeded as well.
It's pretty clear that JMU & App St. will be seeded if they win out. It gets a little sticky after that with good arguments to be made by a number of teams for the remaining two seeds. I am a little perplexed by the lack of love for SIU. They're a very good team and will earn the Valley's autobid if they win out.

I'm perplexed too, unless it's because we were picked to finish fifth in the MVC and spend the year rebuilding and learning a new system. I don't see us getting the NC this year, but what we've accomplished in the circumstances we're in has been consistently underestimated this year. In our eight wins so far we've trailed for exactly 00:00 minutes. Win next week and we roll into the playoffs on a seven game winning streak. (

We lose a total of 13 seniors this year, too.)

It is the selection committee. Nobody really knows what goes through their heads.

The playoffs are not a money maker and seeding all 16 teams would put them seriously into the red. That's why you will likely see games involving South Carolina State vs. Wofford and Colgate vs. UNH. They might not make sense from a seeding perspective but the bus trips cut down on travel costs.

So, why can't the ECB people just ADMIT that, and admit that there aren't any patsies out West, but we're always forced to play EACH OTHER and can't ever get the Delaware States, SCS's Colgates, Hofstras, etc., of the world to come west. Explain THIS then: If it's a cost thing, why did Wofford get screwed and have to come to Montana last year? Why couldn't EIU or Delaware State or Fordham or EKU come to Montana instead? DId Wofford take a bus? I didn't think so...they fcuked Wofford hard, without any vaseline, while other East Coast teams got the cupcakes....
I know...I know...you gotta play em all to win.

I don't see how Wofford got "screwed"....
Yes, they traveled to Montana...I believe, paid for by the NCAA...
And remind us all, how did that game turn out..?????

Wofford was SoCon co-champ. In fact, last year, Wofford AND ASU got screwed. Meanwhile, two other CAA teams line up at the cupcake table with the likes of Delaware STATE and Fordham. How'd UMass do, once they got their fill of cupcakes?

EIU took a bus to SIU. Delaware State took a bus to Delaware. Fordham took a bus to UMass. I can't remember but didn't EKU get a home game to start?
I understand your pain, UNI got UNH last year. They may have been one of the last teams in but they were not cupcake and definietly wouldn't have been the 16th seed if they seeded the whole field. I can't remember how many times UNI has played EWU in the first round. It is what it is. The less competitive conferences with the AQ's are in the east so that is where the easier first round games tend to be. Maybe that will change some with 20 teams and an 8 team first round but I doubt it.

UMass got beat by SIU...and it's amazing that everyone considers Fordham "a cupcake"...
Oh...I get it...Montana wanted the "cupcake" and got a real team...

Exactly. Except the cupcakes all stay out East, and the 3 West teams have to beat up on each other under the auspices of 'cost"....they could send Wofford, why not send Fordham?

He's right, JMU was a cupcake last year in the first round.
