YSU Signs 35 in 2011 Football Recruiting Class

After a disappointing 3-8 year that saw YSU blow four 4th quarter leads (all with under 2:00 left), Coach Eric Wolford made it his mission to sure up a defense that was weak on depth and experience last year.
Here is how it breaks down:
5 JUCO's signed in December
5 JUCO's signed yesterday
1 FBS transfer (Davion Rogers from Michigan)
24 High School Recruits
------
35 Total Recruits
Here is all you need to know:

YSU's biggest critic is Paladin on the YSU message boards. Here is his analysis:
The final push sees 10 Jucos signed . This is the finest Jucos class I've seen in the 31 years I have watched YSU football. Some players from last year just got replaced and won't make the field much. The ability level here is highly improved. The Frosh are as expected -- some very good players who will be stars, some who won't play till they are Juniors, some who are projects and may not work out at all and some I don't see why they were signed as most won't play here if at all .Many of the out of state players are real solid, as are several of the Ohio players. The final push added to the D with very good players. Expect to see new Safties next year , lots of depth at LB & DE. In fact, depth improves overall teamwise, a first in a long number of years. With back to back good recruit classes, expect to see YSU improve immediately next year.In fact, a winning record. And in the following years, get ready for playoffs. The athletic ability level is back for playoffs. Expect to see some current players leave as many will not be able to compete at the higher athletic level coming in. If another good class comes next year, expect to see YSU in the playoffs often. The talent is there for playoff runs. No B.S.
I'm a critic and I'm impressed. Great job, Wolf !!!
For Paladin to say that, it must be an impressive class! YSU fans hate this guy for his ignorant remarks about YSU sports, so for him to say anything positive is unreal!

Watch for RB Demond Hymes. He went to Warren G. Harding High School, home to Maurice Clarett, Mario Manningham, Boom Herron, and many others. A lot of Ohio scouts compare this kid to Herron. Same size, same speed, same techniques.
Hymes committed to YSU in December 2010. In the last week before signing day, Hymes received offers to Akron, Toledo, Miami (OH), and Minnesota. He was bombarded to commit to those schools, but opted to stick with his YSU commitment despite our depth at that position.

YSU is just trying to beef up their roster so they have a prayer when they play Dayton in 2012. All time: Dayton 9, YSU 0. Soon to be Dayton 10, YSU 0 in 2012.

I believe 21 or 23. But we were only using 53 of our 65 scholarships last year with so many players quitting, getting kicked off the team, or being suspended by the new coaching staff.

Gee....we are told to watch out for another RB.
What does YSU have on the roster now 30 running backs?

Not like you guys stopped the ones we had last year anyways

... Cook will be a junior while Bellamy, Jones, and Thompson will be Sophomores.... Tremendous depth at that position.

UNI has one of the best RB's in the MVC---Tirrell Rennie!

Whatever. You haven't beat UNI since the Sweatervest was on the sideline.
Pool for this year - who wins first, YSU vs UNI or a OVC playoff team?

YSU will beat UNI in the Dome of Doom--the sweater vest guy hasn't been here since last century--no more automatic W.

Also, if we couldn't stop your running backs last year you should have won...right?

That would be the case with a team with a halfway decent defense. When you are going up against a defense surrendering 40+ ppg, then a prolific offense like YSU's doesn't get the wins they deserve.

If that is the case you should focus less on filling your team's roster with 10-15 running backs...and more defensive backs and linebackers.

We haven't had a decent team since sweatervest so I'd say that had a lot to do with it---this year marks the first full year of Wolf's recruiting--we came in dead last in the MVFC with a non-existent defense yet only suffered one blowout(@ the hands of Penn State) .The talent level of what we will have on defense this year is as different as night and day.Time is the only thing that will really tell but I think you will be in for a rude awakening if you expect the automatic W that we BOTH have expecting for the past decade! Star ratings don't always mean a lot to me--but I know we will have @ least one 3 star LB and one 4 star LB and almost all of our defensive starters and 2 deeps will be new recruits. I'm sure UNI also may be vastly improved--I was at last years game and believe me it was nowhere near being one-sided (although most YSU fans expected it to be with our non-existant defense.)Our decade of dominance is long gone and so is our decade of being a joke.

The better team won but it was no blowout and it more or less went down to the wire---enjoy the past!

Ill enjoy the CURRENT 10 game win streak over YSU and something like 6 conference titles since the last time we lost to you

And once again I will find solace in the fact that we have 4 Division 1 FCS Titles and you guys have 0. It will be funny if we get five before you get your first... I like our odds and I like that happening by 2015.

Also enjoy your gazillion "almost-made it " flags that fly in the Dome--our old NC title flags from last century are still here--you can have all your titles ,we aim to get back to the top of the mountain in the coming years--once you've been there you will care less about conference titles --our team was a joke for the last 10 years but now the joke is over!

Oh I am pretty sure people will care. Not only the hundreds of thousands of YSU fans in Northeast Ohio, but even fans over there in Northern Iowa that have never felt the joy of winning the National Title in Football!

Remember that there are only 2 things that you can bet your life on and win everytime--1.)The sun will come up tomorrow. 2.)UNI will lose a playoff game. This years recruiting class is more than likely YSU's best ever so hopefully the next few years will be much better than previous years.
