Connor Lebsock, Safety, 6-2, 198, Fr., HS, Billings, Mont. (Skyview HS): Connor was named first team all-state at safety as a junior and senior at Skyview High School, where he was coached by his dad, Ron...was a Great Falls Tribune Super-State pick in 2009 and 2010 he was also the starting quarterback...is a second generation Griz football player, as his dad Ron played at UM from 1974-77, while his brothers Matt, Shawn, and Nick also played at Montana.
Aschan Richards, TE, 6-6, 215, Fr., HS, Butte, Mont. (Butte Central HS): Aschan was a first team all-state selection at tight end...first team all-conference at tight end and at defensive end...also lettered in basketball and track.
Jonathan Richards, LB, 6-3, 215, Fr., HS, Butte, Mont. (Butte Central HS): Jonathan played defensive end and wide receiver...an outstanding receiver with 95 career receptions, including a single-season school record 55 catches in 2009...when his team lost its starting quarterback due to injury his senior year he switched positions and threw for 1,790 yards and 21 touchdowns, rushed for 379 yards and six TDs and guided the Maroons to a 9-2 record that season.
Matt Hermanson, Safety, 6-1, 188, Fr., HS, Sioux Falls, S.D. (Washington HS): Matt had an outstanding senior year, leading his team to a second straight 13-0 season, and passing for 1,359 yards and 22 touchdowns...on defense he had combined 140 tackles and 11 interceptions his junior and senior seasons.
Samson Kaleikini, OL, 6-5, 270, Fr., HS, Kapolei, Hawaii (Kapolei HS): As a senior Samson was named to the prestigious HUB All-Star Classic...all-league pick at offensive line...had seven pancake blocks in one game...high school football coach was Darren Hernandez.
Trent McKinney, QB, 6-0, 182, Fr., HS, Mililani, Hawaii (Mililani HS): Trent threw for 2,227 yards and 25 touchdowns for the Mililani Trojans, who went 10-2, won their league title and advanced to the Hawaii Division I semifinals...McKinney, who had just six interceptions, also rushed for 603 yards and 14 touchdowns...named league MVP on offense as a senior.
Chase White, QB, 6-2, 180, Fr., HS, Shelby, Mont. (Shelby HS): Chase was named first team all-state at quarterback as a junior...chosen for the annual East-West Shrine Game and Class B All-Star Game...one of the leading scorers in the state in basketball this season at more than 20 points a game.
Matt Berg, QB/K, 5-9, 180, Fr., HS, Butte, Mont. (Butte HS): Matt is a walk-on at UM...he was a three-year starter at quarterback at Butte High School...named second team all-state at the AA level following his senior season...he rewrote the Butte High record book as a quarterback and was a Great Falls Tribune Super-State kicker in 2009 and 2010...chosen for East-West Shrine Game...was 6-for-8 on field goals, including a 50-yarder, and made 42 of 43 extra points (one was blocked)...led AA in passing with a 250.0-yard average and threw for 30 TDs...also led all AA kickers with 60 points...prep coach was Arie Gray...Berg formally accepted an offer of admissions to UM.
Nelo Butler, RB, 5-9, 200, Fr., HS, Helena, Mont. (Helena HS): As a junior Nelo rushed for 1,047 yards...was named first team AA all-state his junior year...he was injured last July and missed his senior season at Helena High...coached by former (1985-88) Grizzly quarterback Tony Arntson.
Derek Crittendon, DL, 6-3, 240, Whitefish, Mont. (Whitefish HS): Currently attending UM...originally signed with the Griz in 2009...lettered in football (three), wrestling (two), and track (four)...he was an all-state pick at linebacker in 2009...a two-time all-conference selection at linebacker and fullback for coach Pat Dryden...team captain in wrestling as a junior...has a 4.0 GPA and was a member of the national honor society.
Joe Dahl, OL, 6-4, 240, Fr., HS, Spokane, Wash. (University HS): Only Spokane-area player to be named all-league first team both ways...selected first team all-state at defensive end...also a starter in basketball...an excellent student with a 3.88 GPA...prep football coach was Bill Dietrich.
Kevin Frank Jr., CB, 6-0, 190, Jr., JC, Elk Grove, Calif. (Sierra Col.): Currently enrolled at UM...two-year starter for the Wolverines...two-year stats: 79 tackles, 16 pass break-ups, and four interceptions...All-Valley Conference selection as a freshman in 2009 for head coach Jeff Tisdel... has been timed at 4.4 in the 40, and has benched 225 pounds 17 times....prepped at nearby Elk Grove High School, where he played quarterback and defensive back...as a senior at Elk Grove he rushed for 398 yards and 11 touchdowns and also passed for 711 yards and six scores.
Jesse Ginn, DT, 6-5, 285, Fr., HS, Missoula, Mont. (Hellgate HS): a Two-way starter at local Hellgate High School...first team all-state on defense as a senior and second team pick his junior year...one of the leading rebounders in the state for one of the top-ranked AA basketball teams this season...he had 74 tackles, 12 stops for losses, and eight sacks as a senior...high school coach was R.L. Boyles.
Zach Gratton, Safety, 6-0, 185, Fr., HS, Billings, Mont. (Senior HS): Zach was a three-year starter at Senior High School at safety...he was tabbed first team all-state as a senior for the 6-5 Broncs who lost in the first round of the playoffs...his senior year he had 79 tackles, including 59 solos, two interceptions, a fumble recovery and blocked kick, along with 10 pass break-ups...high school coach was former UM football player Mark Sulser (1987-88)... chosen for annual East-West Shrine Game...his brother Sam is a starting wide receiver for the Griz, while his dad Scott was a starting linebacker at UM, playing from 1979-82.
Gavin Hagfors, RB, 6-2, 207, Fr., HS, Great Falls, Mont. (C.M. Russell HS): Gavin rushed for 907 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior at C.M. Russell High School...he was named first team all-state at linebacker and second team at running back...tabbed first team all-state running back as a junior...his father, Greg Hagfors, was an All-American center at North Dakota State in 1984...he is an outstanding student as well, carrying over a 4.0 GPA...Hagfors formally accepted an offer of admissions to UM.
Nate Harris, CB, 5-10, 185, Fr., HS, Chino, Calif. (Chino Hills HS): Nate was named first team All-C.I.F. and first team all-league at running back and cornerback as a senior at Chino Hills High School when he rushed for 1,169 yards and 14 touchdowns...also an exceptional defensive back, and had three interceptions in 2010...senior squad went 10-3...prep coach was Matt McCain.
Addison Owen, LB, 6-2, 210, Fr., HS, Vancouver, Wash. (Camas HS): Addison was a first team all-state selection at safety as a senior...his Camas High School team (11-1) was ranked sixth in the state, losing 27-24 in overtime to Lake High in a state quarterfinal game, and Owen rushed 29 times for 152 yards in the contest.
Hassan Richardson, WR, 6-4, 190, Fr., HS, Mililani , Hawaii (Mililani HS): Hassan was a first team all-state selection at wide receiver, and also named a league All-Star....his senior season he had 52 receptions for 848 yards and 12 touchdowns, averaging 16.3 yards per catch...a prep teammate of Grizzly signee Trent McKinney...also a standout basketball player who currently leads the state in scoring at more than 21 points a game...named first team all-state in basketball as a junior.
John Schmaing (pronounced: Sh-mayng), OL, 6-6, 255, Fr., HS, Billings, Mont. (Senior HS): John was named first team all-state at offensive tackle and honorable mention all-state pick at defensive end this past season at Senior High School...also named all-conference on offense and defense as a senior...was a three-year starter...prep coach was former Griz player Mark Sulser (1987-88)...academic all-state player with a 3.2 GPA.
Stephen Shaw, P/K, 6-3, 225, Fr., HS, Boise, Idaho (Capital HS): A walk-on, Stephen had an exceptional senior year at Capital High School, when he averaged 43.4-yards per punt, and was named first team All-Idaho 5-A at punter...tabbed all-league at punter and at kicker...chosen Capital's special teams MVP as a senior...averaged 42.0 yards as a junior at Lutheran High School in Villa Park, Calif...his coach at Capital was Todd Simis...Shaw formally accepted an offer of admissions to UM.
Justin Whitted (pronounced: wit-ted), Safety, 6-1, 190, Fr., HS, Los Angeles, Calif. (St. Bernard HS): Justin is currently attending UM...originally signed with the Griz in 2009...a two-way player as a prep...had 65 tackles, four interceptions and three forced fumbles on defense and caught 25 passes for 570 yards and six touchdowns on offense his senior season...all-league at receiver and served as team captain as a senior...chosen his team's "Player of the Year" his senior year...prep football coach was Greg Dixon...earned three letters in football and two in track and field.
Archie Woulard, WR, 6-4, 180, Jr., HS, Chandler, Ariz. (Chandler HS): Attended Mesa College the past two years, but did not play football there...was all-state and all-conference at wide receiver at Chandler High School in 2008.
