The last two FCS champs have been from smaller schools with small fan bases. I'm curious to find out what type of boost Nova got from it's title, but here's a sample of what's happened at EWU and the possible surge a championship can give to your local support:
Wall to wall local media coverage: As has been explained ad nauseum we struggle for exposure with Gonzaga hoops, WSU, UW, two time Memorial Cup Champion Spokane Chiefs, two time AFL2 Champion Spokane shock, and Idaho. We had great coverage throughout the playoff run, but championship week we had the front page of the Sports Section every day, articles every day, and a full two page cover spread photo in the sports section on 1/7 as well as the lead headline "National Treasure" and photo in section A-1.
Local TV sent crews to Frisco that had nightly coverage including a half hour special on SWX Thursday night.
The regions top rated local sports radio telecast ESPN AM 700's "The Dennis Patchin Show" did remote broadcasts Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of Championship week and have talked about very little else.
Washington State Governor Chrisine Gregoire declared Jan 6th offical "EWU Football Day" by decree.
Since the championship, the coverage has continued with many follow up stories in the Spokesman, continued press coverage throughout the media market, and has led to this:

Now I'm sure that for certain big time programs, especially the ones from smaller media markets where your team is the only game in town, this is par for the course. But for those under achieving smaller programs with a weak fanbase and smaller athletics budget that are always struggling to compete for the limelight, this type of pub is priceless.
So to all the little guys, hope you get your chance because the whole damn thing has been terrific and sets us up for future success.
To all the big boys who have the built in advantages and are used to winning and basking in the glow, do smaller programs winning the title hurt FCS football?

Well Said.
This is THE best year for EWU football.

Now if EWU could only get a perm 5k structure up on Roos' visitor side in time for the 2011 Attendance record.

Not at all...I think it does the exact opposite. There are certain FSC schools that even people who are unfamiliar with the FCS know...but most of the schools they don't. Appy State ten years ago was no where near as recognizable as they are now. Win a NC...or 3...things change. I think EWU has done two huge things this year to get noticed on that level: their field, winning the NC.
Though I would have like a milder red to the field...you can't argue that it caused a huge stir and any exposure is good exposure. At my job, few people know the FCS...they know I pull for Delaware...up until that Nova game they'd never heard of EWU. After that game all they could talk about was that field. If you were just a random viewer, surfing the channels and you scanned by ESPN2...there's no way you didn't stop, if even for a moment to see that field.
Winning the NC, on national TV, in that dramatic a fashion, without their best player, with a contraversal call...it equals great, great things for a program.
In truth...I really liked what I saw from EWU. Their team playerd hard, their players never gave up, their coach was as classy as it got. You maybe remember as the dudes with the red field...but you'll be remembered.

The last three champions have been smaller schools with smaller fan bases. You forgot about Richmond in 2008.

That's was really good. I needed a bit of a laugh today.
Seriously, though, good for EWU. Great things happen with teams like this.
Although we didn't make the NC in 2005, it got the fans/students excited about what could be....and now we go to FBS, (not saying I like it) after the students took the initiative and got "The Drive" off the ground.

You're a funny guy aren't you. I'm gonna make a prediction...
Eastern gets:
+Increased fan base+attendance
+Video Board
+A plan in place for another stadium renovation. Hopefully that visitors side. And if that happens, you fxcks over build-a-bear workshop gotta REAL problem.

Your predictions scare me now BF
New permanent stands on the visitors side would look pretty sweet for EWU. Any talks on this happening though?
BTW, our build-a-bear workshop seems to only produce these for some reason... I can't figure it out

No, as long as FCS doesn't turn into DIII or NAIA where it's the same two teams every single year.

Richmond got a new stadium
Nova got a Big East invite
Eastern got a ...............???
UR's stadium was already already planned when UR won their NC in 08'. Nova's NC a yr ago probably made very little difference in their getting a BE invite. Apparently was driven by basketball.

Well, if we're gonna do that, then after JMU won their NC in 04', got their then 10 million Athletic Performance Center off one endzone....even though it was already under construction during the 04' season...

That's no problem for us. Just don't expand the visitors section too much or it'll be Joe Albi all over again.....more UM fans that ewu's.
