Towson SID responds to criticism

Someone on
eGriz posted this reply he got from Towson SID Dan O'Connell:
Dear xxx
How can you assume that this is “the epitome of bitter and east coast bias?”
Why should you be ashamed of my actions?
I truly believe that Delaware was beaten by an egregious administrative error by the officials. Mario Brown was clearly short of the first down in the fourth quarter. If the chains had not been moved, I firmly believe that he would have short of the first down and Delaware would have taken over on downs.
Although Eastern Washington won the game, Delaware dominated the first 40 minutes and Delaware dominated the game statistically. If the ball had been spotted correctly, Delaware would have won.
When the ball was spotted erroneously, it seemed like more than the UD defense could handle. They had been on the field for a long time.
I didn’t mean to disrespect Eastern Washington in any way. They won the trophy and they are the national champions. Their impressive come-from-behind rally was outstanding. The fact that it was accomplished against a terrific defense made it even more impressive.
Polls are opinions and not everyone is going to agree.
Dan

Sounds like he forgets that Delaware got the ball back with plenty of time to get in field goal range... and failed. The loss can't be blamed on the officials. They didn't single handedly let EWU come back from 19 down.

I have no problem with someone voting Delaware #1.

That's ridiculous reasoning. To say that Delaware was beaten solely on that call shows bias of some form. The officials screwed up in resetting the chains before the review (or at least by not setting some sort of marker before moving them), but it's still unclear whether Brown had the first down (all we can really go on is the yellow ESPN line, which of course isn't the official line). The nose of the ball appeared to reach the back edge of the yellow line.
Even if Delaware got the ball on downs, EWU still had enough time to stop them & get the ball back with a couple minutes left. That play alone didn't even come close to deciding the game. It sounds like O'Connell was looking for an excuse to vote Delaware #1 rather than thinking about it objectively.

Exactly. Who cares- the end of the season poll is about as worthless as the pre season poll. They're's one team with an NC trophy, and thats all that really matters.

It seems as though the Towson SID is as inept as the Tiger football team.

I don't know why people are bent out of shape - what good is a postseason poll when you have a playoff?

I watched the game and the EWU runner was clearly stopped short of the first down. Why they ever got that spot is beyond me. Once they moved the chains there was little that could be done to right the situation. Tough call in a championship game. To their credit, I haven't seen many Delaware fans bitching about it.

Apparently the Towson SID voted Delaware #1 in the post-season poll.
Or much ado about nothing.

I didn't know there was a post season poll. And WTF would there be one?
Is there a link to this story.

Incorrect. The video evidence is very clear.

Seriously, why do people care about a post season poll that doesn't award the national title?

You guys are missing the point. This is not a story about polls, Delaware, EWU, first downs, etc. It is about Towson. It's January. If they can't get publicity during the season, at least let them have some in the off-season.
Go Tigers.

Accuracy.

Wrong.
I just watched it a second ago and the original yardage marker's point was right on the 22. That's where the ball was re-spotted at... right on the 22. First Down Eagles! You, Keeler, and Towson's AD owe that griz fan an apology.
