Wow, what a difference a year makes! At this time last year WIU had just hired Mark Hendrickson to succeed Don Patterson as coach after a difficult situation, was coming off a 1-10 season, and the members of Leatherneck Nation were in a total uproar! Just one year later not only have the Necks won 8 games while taking second in the MVC, but also qualified for the FCS playoffs, advancing to the final 16 before being beaten by AppST. All this while their co-captains are placing second in their respective National MVP Awards (Buch/Peyton) and their coach is also the runner up for the FCS National Coach of the Year. Besides that, the old and tired scoreboard at the north end of Hanson Field is being replaced while the turf itself, which is also worn and tired, is being replaced by a brand new synthetic surface. (Hopefully not purple! 
) I know its been said that Western Illinois University is out in the middle of no-where, but the Leathernecks are once again on the FCS map!
