I think the Houston Astros get the biggest one of those. Way more people followed their lead in putting in green artificial turf. You only have one follower; they have several thousand.

They would have installed colored turf too, but figured the uni's provided enough of that.

Those uniforms were awesome and hideous at the same time. In 1979, I was heavily influenced by the colorful uniforms and the Astros have been my team ever since. There have been a lot of lean years, but the sight of those rainbow jerseys still makes me smile.

That high school's facilities about 5 times better than EWU's.

I'd be fucking embarrassed if I were EWU.

I've never been a fan of pull-over baseball jerseys, but I did like this color combination. Make it with a button-up jersey and make everyone wear knee-length pants and I'd love them.

J.R. & Nolan ... I wouldn't have wanted to have been across the line from them in football either.

New Braunfels draws extremely well and puts out a ton of great players on the collegiate level. The school getting the red turf is probably best known in South Texas as where Lance Berkman played baseball before heading to Rice. New Braunfels High rewrote the Texas passing records when Kliff Kingsbury was there.

Oh wait, I see they're not even crediting EWU...
Inspired by the blue "Smurf Turf" at Boise State University in Idaho, CISD officials will be installing a red field with black end zones and sideline areas at Canyon High School in time for the 2011 season.

Dude, it's Texas. Have you heard about their text book's? They're not exactly the most aware folks in the world. :thumb:

I think EWU has got them beat hands down IMO as far as stadiums go...

Folks know their football. What happens outside of that...not so much. :thumb:

Can't have it both ways there Kalm. You painted yourself into a corner on this one. ;)

Sure I can. Certain Texas high school football administrators like them some red turf, and some of the fans interviewed haven't heard of the Inferno. Unlike fans of certain, more storied, FCS programs I recognize our deficiencies. (e.g. 6,000 fans for a playoff game in the FCFD (Fabulous Cedar Falls Dome). :ohno:

They are a lot closer in quality if you use quality pictures. It is a push at the very least....which is still embarrassing for a D1 school to be on par with a high school for facilities. Outside of the temp seating at EWU, which the HS could add the exact same thing and a "fancy ticket window", there is nothing at EWU that pushes it over the HS field. Also, that high school field seats more with permanent seating than EWU does.

People, they're just stadiums...not hallowed shrines. They are places of seating to witness events of interest.

Some of you take stadiums way too seriously.

Would you rather watch a game at a stadium like that high school, EWU, etc...

OR

a stadium like Wa-Griz, the Tub, the Rock, etc...

I suppose you think EWU is probably an equal or better place to see a game than the Rose Bowl, the Big House, Death Valley (either one), the Swamp, Kinnick, Doak, etc...

Honestly could care less. I don't think I've really been at awe of a building during a football game. Atmosphere? Yes. Building? No.

(and fwiw, I think the "Rock" is one helluva ugly stadium)

The stadium plays a huge part into the atmosphere. Good luck getting a great atmosphere at Jacksonville, even if they were the #1 team in the nation and beating people 60-0 every week.

The stadium helps sets the tone for everything.

Honestly if EWU had a better stadium (even with similar capasity, I'm not talking normal turf just stadium) they would sell out every single week and have SRO tickets that sell out every single week and have waiting lists to get seats.

Give them Brooks Stadium - CCU's stadium 9,112 capasity, EWU sells it out every fucking week this year. People don't like going to a field with bleachers around it. It doesn't feel like a football stadium. Give them a "stadium feel" and they will be glad to head out.

I don't doubt that stadiums play a part in the atmosphere, but I don't think they play that much of a part. I'm sure you've been to magnificent stadiums with quiet crowds, and some pretty crappy stadiums with awesome ones. But if you've got a good fanbase, then they'll show up no matter where you play.

Now you could argue nicer stadiums can be used to lure potential donors, sponsors, casual fans, and to a lesser extent recruits. That definitely benefits the program in the short and long run.

But I guess what I find odd is how we have these jerk-off sessions over concrete and metal structures that are for us to sit in? I mean, I love our stadium and think we're lucky to have it, but I don't sit there idolizing it.
