Battle Royal: Delaware (CAA) vs Appalachian State (SoCon)

This is a battle of Delaware and Appalachian State and to an extent the CAA vs SoCon. Let this work much the same as the FCS Elimination game.
Both will start on equal ground... Since theres only two teams I will start them at 50 as opposed to the normal 10.
Tale of the Tape
Delaware is a six time National Champion and will be going for lucky number 7 in January. The Blue hens play is what is widely considered the best conference in the FCS.
Appalachian State won three consecutive National Championships including one over Delaware and another over CAA Massachusetts. The Mountaineers also beat Michigan in an instant classic in 2007. The Mountaineers play in the Southern Conference which is widely considered the second best conference in the FCS, right on the heels of the CAA.
Last one standing has bragging rights... for now.
Delaware - 50
Appalachian State - 50

Sustained success since 2005: App State
Sustained success since 1985: Georgia Southern
Sustained success since 1940: Delaware
Montana and Youngstown State deserve an award of some sort too, but I couldn't think of one quickly.

But, But, but... Delaware fans started a thread to brag about their titles in the 1940's and 1960's!

We may be starting one soon to brag about our championships in the 201X's.

I'd love to lock both fan bases in a dungeon somewhere.

Let's not forget their 1979 D2...er, I mean....D1AA....no, no, that can't be it.....well, they won a national title in 1979, so it counts....just like Elon won the 1980 national championship....

If you locked the assocaited teams in a dungeon with their fans, UNH might have a chance to make the semis....

Yes, Elon beat Northeastern (OK) State in NAIA (whatever the hell that is) while Delaware beat Youngstown State in D2, the year before having the schollies in place to move to I-AA.
Historians, please correct me if I'm wrong, because I was a young pup at the time. Were any of the 1978 and 1979 I-AA teams in D2 prior? Is is fair to assume that the pre-I-AA D2 teams had to ramp up their schollies while the UMass and FAMU's already had the requisite schollies in place to drop from D-I to D I-AA?

is this seriously worth arguing over? Its like arguing if Doug Flutie's CFL stats should be considered when deciding for the HOF... or if Satchel Paige's Negro League stats should.... or Any of the guys who played in the ABA.
Delaware has won seven... errr Six National Championships at the level they have played at... because they moved up doesn't mean they are any less a champion. The FCS hasnt awarded Marshall's 1992 and 1996 titles to Youngstown State and Montana because Marshall left.. though I'm sure Montana wouldnt mind if they did. Hell if they did the 1987 title would be up for grabs right now between UNI and Appalachian State because Marshall and Northeast Louisiana are long gone.

So, App can claim 4 now? Cool.....this is easy....

Claim whatever you want as long as it's accurate.
You guys (App) seem to be getting very emotional about this.
All I'm trying to deal in is facts rather than emotion. The facts are that Delaware has six championships, three coaches in a row (with an option for a fourth) in the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend, and a far more illustrious history than App State. Again, no need to feel slighted. You can't change history. You can only do better in the future.

Simple no?
UD > UNH > Nova > App
Of course, I sure am glad it's EWU we're playing in Frisco and not Nova or App...

If by emotional, you mean laughing hysterically while UD fans try to rationalize how their 6 national championships is as impressive as GSU's six titles, then yes...we're a bit emotional about it....

No worries. We're going for seven in a couple of weeks, or as they say in Statesboro, "Seven would be nice."

Good luck...it's a shame NDSU got robbed by the cowbell or they could have been playing you guys for their ninth national championship.

Absolutely, except it wasn't at the level just below the big boys that we all know and love so well!

Fair enough. So we can agree that Harvard is currently the most dominant program with their 12 national titles.

Again, depends on your criteria. All of theirs were won at the big-boy level, not at our peon level here in FCS.
