Sorry EWU. The NCAA needs to pass a law.

Go Runnin' Bulldogs!

The invention of field turf makes odd-colored fields bearable. The black stuff underneath masks the brightness a bit.

I remember when Boise still had blue astroturf. That was horrible.

I'd be okay with that, but I think you'd still have to grandfather EWU and Boise's fields, unless the NCAA wants to pay to have them replaced.

They could just say you have to install green turf whenever you install turf. Let them keep their fucked up colors until it's time to change them.

The nation is laughing at FCS football tonight because of that dumbass field.

In all honesty, the field is easy to watch. Far less distracting to my retinas than Boise's blue.

Now, the principle you can certainly debate, but it looks fine on HDTV. :twocents:

Colored fields must have some sort of mystical powers. Boise State is nearly undefeated on the Smurf Turf, and now EWU on the Maxi Pad...WTF? Gotta love sports!

Um, no.

It might be your OPINION that the NCAA OUGHT to make a rule about that. That I would agree with. But a "need?" No way. One person's OPINION does NOT translate into another person's (or organization's) NEED.

Yeah the red turf maybe a gimmick to attract recruits, but everything not related to the game is a gimmick. GSU's yellow buses are a gimmick. Mascots are a gimmick. Yosef's Rifle is a gimmick. Fight songs are gimmicks. Highlight videos are a gimmick.

If 100 different uniform combos and colored turf were donw 50 years ago, they would be considered tradition today alongside Rammer Jammer and Touchdown Jesus.

I'm still laughing harder at UNI losing to Lehigh in the first round. :thumb:

Of course it's his opinion. Most people understand that without him have to say "in my opinion". You need to be more like most people. ;)

That's what I've been trying to say all year. In person, and in HD, I really love how it looks. I know it's not for everyone, but to think we embarassed FCS tonight is a joke. There's been people from all over the country commenting on it in a positive light on facebook after watching it on ESPN tonight.

Everybody should use their colors when they re-surface their turf. Adds to their marketing and their home field advantage.

I also applaud the EWU fans for filling the stadium last night for a 5pm game. Pretty loud too. :thumb:

I thought it looked really good on TV, completley different than Boise's. For some reason its harder on the eyes to watch a game on the blue instead of red. The stans looked filled too.
I hardly think anyone is laughing at FCS now. If anything they will remember at least something about the game. Which, in the end helped promote FCS, didn't it?

Congrats EWU!

I mentioned this on our board, but the announced attendance of 6600 or so seemed way off to me. The entire press box side was packed, the end zone seating was full, and the opposite side was basically full. It looked a lot more like 8 or 9 thousand there to me. There was almost 12 thousand at Roos earlier in the year to watch the Montana game, and no way were there 5 thousand more people there at that game than there were last night. What gives? Do schools under report in the playoffs??

On another note, the NCAA president was at the game last night and seemed to have nothing but positive things to say about the experience.

http://www.facebook.com/NCAAPresident?v ... ent?v=wall" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

"Congrats to the Eastern Washington football team (EWU Athletics) on securing their spot in the NCAA Football Championship! Villanova made it a great game in a vibrant stadium. Thoughts on the red field?"

The schools do this to keep a few of the crumbs from the NCAA. The announced attendance is almost always 20-30% under-reported in the playoffs.

If they're laughing it's at the 7 turnovers.

Griz fans filled the place up and made noise. Its only a couple hundred miles away from Missoula

I thought the visitors' side looked less than half full, so the announced attendance was probably correct.

As to the turf, if you're not going to use real grass, don't bother pretending it is (my opinion since they decided to make tennis courts blue).
