Four JMU Players Arrested

HARRISONBURG - Four James Madison University football players have been arrested and charged with felonies stemming from an assault last month, according to the Harrisonburg Police Department.

Junior safety Jonathan Williams, junior safety Jonathan Rose and sophomore safety Peter Rose were all charged with malicious wounding by mob after an incident on Nov. 15. Freshman wide receiver Anthony Rose was charged with conspiracy to commit malicious wounding by mob, also a felony.

The three brothers were arrested on Dec. 3. Williams was arrested separately the next day.

According to HPD spokesperson Mary-Hope Vass, the charges stem from "a verbal argument that then lead to three male victims being assaulted."

One was taken to Rockingham Memorial Hospital. The other two victims were not hospitalized.

A source characterized the one victim's injuries as "significant" and said he was knocked unconscious and suffered broken bones.

The source said Anthony Rose - the youngest of the group - was not involved in the actual assault. The source said one of the suspects - he declined to say which one - got into a verbal dispute at party, then phone for the other three suspects to come to his aide

Pretty sure there was questions about bringing Peter Rose to JMU based on some drug charges. Soooo, there goes JMU's secondary....

I think that's why they waited a bit to arrest them....had to see if JMU was going to be the first team ever to get an at-large with a 6-5 record.

I knew this was the year of the Eags before the season started, playoff run wouldn't have mattered. Check the sig!

Williams : Started all 11 games at WS. 61 Tot tackles, 2 int, 11 PD

Peter Rose: Played 10, Started 1. 27 Tot Tackles, 1 sack

Jon Rose: Played 11, 9 Tot Tackles

... and I believe the youngest Rose, who was charged with conspiracy, red-shirted this year.

Yep.

I'll wait and hear the circumstances, but it doesn't look good. Sounds like a fight that got out of hand. Still not cool.

But even if this is remotely true, Peter Rose should be done. He got his second chance. See ya. The other guys might be worthy of a second chance if it's one of those deals where they're charged with a felony and ends up going to a misdemeanor because of some additional facts (a la the Kevin Grayson thing at Richmond).

I will reiterate that give the significance of the injuries, that doesn't appear to be the case. And if that's the case they're all gone (or should be).

Interesting that Barber notes that Matthews went to Linwood Rose to lobby for Peter Rose. Actually, this is my favorite quote...
Matthews went to JMU president Linwood Rose - no relation - and Bourne to lobby for Peter Rose to be admitted to the school.

Did any of them they play in the last game of the season on 11.20? If so, was Mickey aware of the incident that took place on 11/15?

Yeah, some of them played on 11.20. Don't know if Mickey was aware, but the guys weren't arrested until December 3rd...

Grayson punched a kid in the nose.

These guys made someone unconsious and 'broke bones'.

Obviously, Mickey really stuck his neck out to bring in Peter Rose. Think there will be repurcussions for that decision?

It'd obviously never happen (since my last name isn't Rose), but at this point I think I'd rather name my first child 'Mud' than ever have him called Peter or Pete Rose. :twocents:

A football player runs his mouth, then needs to call three other football players for backup?

Where's the pussy Smiley.

Or the airhead smiley.

Back in the day, weren't thugs generally smart enough to actually HAVE the backup before spewing their swill?

Yup. JMU is ready for FBS. :ohno:

I thought it would take another 2-3 years before Old Dominion passed JMU as a football program. Maybe it will happen sooner than I thought. Keep expanding Bridgeforth boys. Maybe you can lure a UFL team to Harrisonburg. :dunce:

Way to not quote the rest of my post where I said that given the injuries it didn't look like the same deal.

I'm not sure there will be repercussions further than Mickey not being able to bring in this kind of kid again. IMO, once Rose (Linwood) and Bourne give their approval it falls on them too. Let's face it, it was probably a plea from another coach to Mickey that led him to go to the administration. Either way, I hope everybody's learned their lesson.

I'll still be interested to see what kind of facts come out (i.e., when the coaches knew, what actually happened, etc.). It seems a bit odd to me that it took two and a half weeks to complete an investigation on what appears to be a hellacious beatdown. There are a couple of explanations 1) it was a hellacious beatdown and the police kept it quiet until the end of the year at somebody's request or 2) it's more complicated than just a hellacious beatdown.

If it's 1 I'm not sure where to point the finger. I'm sure that many H'burg PD officers are JMU grads and are probably more than willing to drag out an investigation if anybody, even just the players asked them to.

Oh, and what are the odds the guys that got beat up were talking isht about the football team?

If these kids weren't on the football team, this wouldn't even be news.

I agree. But they are and it is. You know that as soon as you sign that LOI you've got an extra level of scrutiny and responsibility. It works great for some kids (I've got a cousin that plays NAIA, he was a horrible student, but being on the team has made him do a 180 and it's great), some kids can't handle it.

Yep, and with Peter Rose having his scholarship to Tech revoked for the drug dealing, he was under an even higher level of scrutiny. Without that, I don't think the reaction would be so bad - how is a 3 on 3 fight is mob assault?

Also, who isn't surprised this happened in Hunter's Ridge?
