What a Weekend

I was just setting up my DVR for this weekend's games and one benefit of the expanded field dawned on me. With everything pushed back a week, the FCS quarterfinals really have a chance to shine not being on FBS conference championship week. UD-UNH will be the only football game on TV on Friday night and App-Nova gets the same treatment on Saturday until Army-Navy kicks off at 2:30. As a bonus, MASN is carrying GSU-Woff, and when it ends, the conclusion of EWU-NDSU.
Gotta love the quarters. Four games is perfect.

And they're all pretty decent games as well. I'm not sold on the ability of NDSU or EWU to win in the next round, but even that is a quality game to watch this weekend. Good times in FCS land.

Two of the teams that win this weekend won't win "in the next round", so why single out the NDSU/EWU winner? I'm not sold on GSU/Wofford winner's ability to win in the next round either.

Probably because NDSU snuck into the playoffs from a conference who's champion lost to Lehigh and EWU because of NDSU already beating MSU who looked to be on par with the Eagles.
Also, the AppSt/Nova winner IMO is the clear favorite.
If Wofford beats GSU, I don't like their chances against either team, but if GSU wins I think it's a close game.
Or, you could just claim some bullshit excuse like east coast bias and go have another Bud Light.

App-Nova winner as "clear" favorite? Are you saying to win in the next round or to win the Chipper?
Nova isn't a "clear" favorite to go any farther than this week. Not when they have App and potentially EWU in their path to Frisco. In any case, there will likely be Delaware to face in Frisco.
While I believe that of the teams left App will win out, given the potential of an App-Del matchup in the final, installing them as favorites now is HIGHLY premature, IMO. That will be a game to rival more than two-thirds of the bogus bowls and perhaps even the vaunted B(C)$ title game itself.

I'm saying a clear favorite to get to the title game. Frankly, I see the NDSU/EWU game as the game for 7th place. I just don't see either of them being able to beat the winner of Appy/nova. And I would actually like UD's chances against Appy St, if both teams are lucky to get that far.

EWU and NDSU as a battle for 7th place is impossible. If the NCAA carried out a consolation bracket, the winner would be guaranteed at least fourth. And the loser would have an even shot to beat Nova and the winner between UNH-GA Southern for fifth.
Of course, this is all hypothetical. The NCAA doesn't see the fiduciary (or player-development) value in doing this.

But they don't so it can be the battle for 7th place. 7th is determined by the polls.
