Championship Game - Cotton Bowl

Well, our first piece of good news since the NCAA chose Frisco as the site of the National Championship game... the Cotton Bowl, which is the same day and time as our game and only 45 minutes down the road, ends up with two teams that won't draw much interest in Dallas... Texas A&M and LSU.

Holy shit, could they have gotten two teams that would drum up more interest? :ohno:

How stupid was it to schedule the Championship game the same day as Cotton Bowl. Ought to be a lot of fun trying to find a hotel room on less than 1mos notice.....

Aggies will draw a good crowd as they always do for the Cotton bowl(when they go). And trust me, there will be plenty of hotel rooms available in the DFW area.

Cmon, this is the DFW metroplex. Not too many from Aggieland are goign to be booking hotel rooms & the distance between Pizza Hut Park & Cowboys Stadium is pretty decent. This isn't Chatty - this is a big ass place, there will be no problems finding rental cars or hotel rooms.

Yeah it sucks plain and simple, but remember the Cotton Bowl conflict is only for this year (Cotton Bowl is celebrating 100 years or something like that which falls squarely on Jan 7th.).

Frisco is guaranteed the game for the next 3.

Probably would have made sense for the NCAA to give Chatty one more year and then move it if they wanted to, but oh well.

Not true. The Cotton Bowl contract will have it the same day as all three of our championship games in Frisco. It wouldn't be until 2014 that we may catch a break if the game is still in Frisco...

The remaining games in the new contract will be played Friday, Jan. 6, 2012; Friday Jan. 4, 2013; and Monday, Jan. 6, 2014.

I agree. I wasn't referring to hotels and accomodations, I was talking about being lost in the shuffle. One of the major things that people in favor of moving to Frisco talked about was the love of football in Texas. How much will they love us with the Cotton Bowl going on at the same time?

Come to see AppSt vs Wofford or have a party and watch our local bowl game featuring two teams from our area?

Appy versus Wofford? Come on man, the odds of that matchup are probably the longest outside of a matchup that includes the EWU/NDSU winner.

 Yeah, has a lot to do with bias. 5 of the 8 teams remaining are much closer to Chatty than Frisco. The other three aren't driving distance to either. :coffee:

Apparently it is news to some that it will be same night at the Cotton for three straight years.

And here, before you mentioned it, I had just been scanning through my Outlook Calendar wondering when the 2012 FCS championship game was going to be played. At least I can mark that off my list of things to do today. Next up, what's for dinner tonight?

What really gets my socks all linty about it is that this far in advance they couldn't possibly change the date of the 2012 game.

My only criteria are someplace that has nice facilities and has the best chance of being full. Must meet both of those for me.

Definitely news to me.

I do know that the NCAA has the ability with ESPN to have the FCS championship game on either Friday, Saturday or Sunday of that weekend, so maybe after it goes up in flames this year like you so want it to Hen, they'll just move it to Saturday next year. ;)

Huh?

Look in Plano, which is right next to Frisco - you'd have no problems getting a room there, and no one who is going to the Cotton Bowl is booking a room in Plano.

I checked Orbitz earlier today, and there are plenty of rooms available in the 5-8 mile range of the stadium. And at reasonable prices. Not as close as I would like, but definitely available.

Didn't the deal include a certain number of rooms set aside for the teams's fans, that wouldn't be available until the match up is set?

That may be. I checked several months ago and there is one hotel that is very close to the stadium. It doesn't show up on the travel sites now.
