In Sept after becoming only the 2nd I-AA to beat a ranked I-A in 200 some games between ranked I-A and I-AA going back to the formation of I-AA in 1978, with VT going to the Orange Bowl, JMU has now become the only I-AA ever to have beaten a I-A that went on to what is now a BCS bowl.

My sister graduated from Tech. We were playing poker and watching the game with some friends Sat. night and she was in all her Hokie garb. Near the end of the game I stared off blankly and wondered out loud..."How long do you think it will take me to get my "JMU ACC Champions" shirt made?"

She was not as amused as everyone else... :D

Thing is, it sucks for us JMU fans that JMU didn't make the playoffs (even though we know that JMU was as good or better than most of the bottom 8). Thing is, as shi**y as that is for us missing the playoffs, I wouldn't trade the VT win for the playoffs. Kind of sucks in a way that that win over VT has done and will do more for JMU's program than the NC win.

-Back in Sept you had all the talk of how JMU eliminated Boise St from NC contention.
-Then JMU's win over VT continued to be mentioned as Boise won their next 10 straight and VT won their next 11 straight . Every VT and Boise game I saw on TV I heard it mentioned, and a # of other times throughout the fall on ESPN when BCS NC discussions came up regarding Boise and discussions came up regarding VT and the ACC.
-Like I said before I heard it mentioned during the ACC Title game and undoubtedly will during the Orange Bowl. Guarantee that around the country more of the general sports fan and college football fan masses will be able to Identify JMU as the team that beat VT than they will be able to who won the FCS playoffs.

VT has dominated the state of VA the last doz seasons since they played in the 99' NC game, winning 7 straight and 11 of 12 over UVA, and has been perennially ranked in the top 25. I grew up in VA and lived there until 2000. Still travel to VA often to visit family and go to JMU games. Through the early 90s most of what you saw and heard around the state was about UVA. Mid late 90s it was both UVA and VT. Since 99 its been most VT this, and VT that, around the state. FAR more people in VA (and nationwide for that matter) know about JMU beating VT than know about JMU wining the 04' NC.
