Maybe last years good team and this years expectations helped to sell tickets.

I seriously hope that EWU people didn't buy tickets just because the field was red. The field is red whether there is a game being played or not. Are EWU fans buying tickets to see the field even when there is no game?

I'm not saying people are going to the games more just because of the red turf, but you'd be fooling yourself to think that there's not a good handful of people that didn't attend games or pay attention before, and decided to check it out because of the outlandish turf, and have continued to come because of the performance on the field.
