ESPN Gameday did a feature on them. Apparently only 11 of 120 I-A use them. Thread on this over on the CAAZone JMU page. So far have come up with the following 9 I-AA that use helmet stickers.

App State-Gorton Fisherman's Logo
UNH
NAU-hatchets?
FAMU'
Coastal Carolina - Talon
Georgia State - Panther, a block "M" (standing for magnanimatas, or "greatness of spirit" in Latin), and a gold star for academics
Hampton - Pirate
North Carolina A&T
Youngstown State - White Star

Any others? What do people think of them. Personally, I wouldn't want JMU to go to them. I think they so high school, and put the individual above team.

Well, the good news is you have until September to ruminate on these subjects. :kisswink:

I like them. I can understand your point about individual over team, but think names on back of jersey is a bigger culprit than helmet stickers as far as bringing attention to one's self....not to mention the dreads hanging out of helmets. I'd rather get rid of the dreads & names on jerseys than the stickers, :twocents:

Not a big fan... but, it's not about me and I doubt anyone in the football program cares what I think. I know for a fact that the players love them and take great pride in receiving them. As long as that's the case, I hope they continue to fill their helmets up.

I agree with you there. On the feature they showed Joe PA being asked about them and he replied something like "Not for us" and of course Penn State doesn't do the names on the backs of the jerseys either. Always liked Penn State.

ASU poster over on the Zone said Armanti refused to wear them- didn't want to put self above team or something like that.

Looks like he did for at least some of his tenure.

A quick Google search showed some with/without - could have been early/late in the season, or he may have changed his mind later in his ASU career.

As far as his Panther's helmet, I don't think it's even broken in just yet. :ohno:

He didn't wear them his senior year. I don't think any of the captains did.

Here you go small child, this is a sticker to show how well you did today. That shit is fucking stupid and kudos to the guys that recognize that like Armanti did. Doesn't affect me watching the game though so what the fuck do I care...

Change a few words and you have a synopsis of the BCS selection process.

Don't you have a fashion show to attend? What's the color of your jerseys this week?

How the hell would I know? I always thought the Black looked like shit and teams wearing it don't win in Wa Griz so I was against that shit as soon as I saw it.

It's pretty sissy and self aggrandizing to have the stickers on the helmet but I can see how you would not understand that.

ASU should change their stickers to either a lawn mower or a life preserver:

I'm not in love with the stickers, but think there are larger offenses....like wearing black jerseys when it's not one of your primary colors....though I bet it was intimidating to Montana St....

I don't know what you're having trouble with here Appa since I just said that a team wearing black isn't intimidating to ANYONE in Wa Griz but I can't go further with the explanation.

Montana State is a good team and they did what good teams do. They come in and take a game from ya once in a while.

None of that changes the fact that I don't think stickers a big offense either. They are just a real sissy, pussy kind of thing to treat young fella's playing a rough game like children. The fact that some of them shun that type of thing is commendable. Does the wife give you little stickers when you do good things like not shit all over yourself? If she does then you can look back on those two days and remember it for years to come. :thumb:

My high school used them and I loved it.

Sure, there were players who tried to get as many as they could regardless what it did for the team - and my senior year it cost our team badly because the QB (who actually plays for USD) was all about him.

However, they were a source of program pride. The goal of the team was to get every players helmets as full as possible, even the people who didn't play. They weren't easy to come by either - not like Ohio State who gave Ted Ginn Jr 13 in one game.

Coming from a program that uses them I love them, but I appear to be in the minority

Not a big fan of the helmet stickers, but as mentioned by others, I could really care less. The one thing I did like about the College Game Day piece was the way that Florida State issues the stickers... if you fuck up, they take the sticker back. So it's not just a small token to show that you are doing well, if you fumble you lose the sticker... if you throw an INT, you lose the sticker... etc.
