Griz Fans Representing

From a thread started over on the EWU board, and a response from an EWU fan that recalls the last time the Griz were out of the playoffs and EWU had a home game:
Yes, I am a Griz fan...and I love playoff games!! More intensity...usually cold weather. They are a blast!!! And because my team SUCKED so bad this year, I am now coming to Cheney to give my full support to EWU in the playoffs. And in the 2nd round, I would love to see you play the Cats again. I will go to that one too (and root for EWU by the way!).
We need to be LOUD and ROWDY for this game. And hope for cold weather!! Some of those southern teams just fold when it is real cold. It has happened in Missoula many times. Last year Stephen F. Austin came up here thinking they were going to beat us, and they lost 51-0.....and it was very cold.
And if you see someone at the game with a Griz coat on....don't be afraid to buy him a beer!!!!!!!!
For as much as there is a rivalry between EWU and Montana- largely owing to the fact we are the only team to beat them with any semblence of consistency, and even that sort of redefines "consistency"- Montana has always been very cordial in defeat. I remember seeing the stands in '97 when a couple busloads of Rgiz fans came to Albi waving their flags to support Eastern against Youngstown State. That was pretty cool.
There are quite a few Griz fans in the Spokane area and I truly expect to see more than just Polson and Pam at the game. I also expect a large contingent in Bozeman this weekend.
Griz fans - they travel well even they're out of the running.

And I'll also echo the statement from a poster on the EWU board that anyone wearing Griz apparel at my tailgate gets tossed a frosty.

Yeah most Griz fans outside of eGriz are good people. I may be a prick online, but I'm far from it in person. I'll probably be in Bozeman watching the Cats pound the BiZon though.

I was going to say, there is a thread on egriz imploring Griz fans to travel to Bozeman, wear Griz gear and root against the Cats. Yes, they are pretty classy.

I also remember EWU's 1997 run to the semi-finals. I think UM lost their first play-off game that year, and I do remember seeing some Griz fans at a couple of the games at Joe Albi - it was really cool to see. You probably wouldn't see too many fans of other teams doing such a thing.

Hopefully we'll see some Montana folks this weekend - attendance is going to be hurting with the weather and the crapple cup going on.

I was debating on going to the MSU game or the EWU game and if I were at either there is no way I would root against the Cats or the Eagles. You'd have to be a true fucking punk to have manufactured some kind of anger to root against your own conference and kids from your state. Fuck the douchebags that promote that kind of shit. Sorry we've got some of them but it can't be helped.
I went to Eastern last time and I think I'm gonna try and make it there this time and then hopefully go to see the Cats/Eagles game in Bozeman if the chips fall right this weekend.
Go Cats! Go Eagles!

Catbob, unless I misread the thread it looks like this massive maroon and silver posse will consist of Hammer and Alpha.

Hammer is going to root against them? Doesn't seem like that kind of guy from what I've seen but maybe he's trying to get some feathers ruffled...I know Alpha would be all for some feather ruffling.

Two people do not a fanbase make (did I get that right?

)
It would be like 2506 and msuhunter doing the same to us and us generalizing Cat fans.
Hell, you guys had a Chronicle article intended to catalog our depression from missing the playoffs

How tough is it going to be to get tickets for playoff games in Bozeman? I too would be interested in seeing a rematch if it comes to be.

We are hearing that all thats left for the NDSU game is endzone seats right now and it will probably sell out, but NDSU probably travels better than EWU.
You could buy them online and probably get them if you do it withing a few hours of when they open it up to the public.

First things first though, we gotta beat NDSU.

It goes both ways. I heard from plenty of Cat fans the last two years cheering against the Griz in the playoffs and rubbing it in when they lost the NC. You definitely can't judge the average Griz fan by what you see on eGriz.

I've seen it for years from Cat fans and that alone is a good reason not to go down that road.

LOL at the fans on both sides of Cat-Griz who still think this is a winnable argument.
Step 1: see or hear something that makes the other side look bad.
Step 2: fail to see or hear anything that makes your own side look bad.
Step 3: (This is the important part). Assume that your ridiculously small handful of anecdotes is actually a sample large enough to make valid generalizations about everyone on the other side.
Step 4: (Optional). Post your anecdote(s) and the unflattering generalizations you have drawn from them to the message board of your choice.
Step 5: Rinse and repeat.

Good grief I wasn't generalizing, you guys were putting words in my mouth. I simply said there was a thread on egriz about going to Bozeman to root against the Cats. I didn't say the entire fanbase was like that, or that they thought it was a good idea, or that there would be a "massive posse" coming down. I was just saying there was a thread about it.
I have gone to Griz playoff games in the past, and the best I could be was indifferent. But I didn't wear Cat gear, as I thought that would be disrespectful unless I was cheering out loud for the Griz, which of course I could not do. I just went as a spectator, a fan of neither team.

I don't think you would of garnered this reaction if you hadn't included that last sentence in the first post
