But really, in the coaches defense, a bad OC hire was made this year. Nagle has no business even being on a staff let alone given the responsibilty for calling plays and helping out the QBs. I don't give a flying fuck how good he was as a college QB (sorry McNeese).
I was talking to my friend (jokingly) at our last game (Saturday) while looking at our roster and said" I'm going to circle the guys that are, or have been hurt this year" then changed my mind as it would be easier to do the ones that weren't. Just numerous amounts of injuries.
We had 2 Seniors go down in the McNeese game that didn't even travel to SAM. Our center has been hurt (herniated disc) all year. 4 guys (starters) on the D played hurt the last 4 games, so no chance to heal. The whole O line has been down at one time or another. Bush got hurt (left knee) Sat but kept playing. DJ Hall was limping. Bryan Iwuji was limping. We wer ok on the D side, as we had depth. The D actually did better this year than any year since 2005. The O and special teams were our achilles. I can't tell you how many times the O and ST put our D in bad places. The first 3 possessions on Sat (by SAM) they were inside the 50, thanks to ST. We lost because the PK missed a PAT so we had to go for 2 at the end.
On the other side, I think the coaches were disconnected. The O and D were disconnected. I think the players did not have faith in their coaches and Wright did not get it under control. The play calling was so damn vanilla that a Pop Warner team could have picked up on our gameplan after a series or two.

I know a lot more about what was happening "behind the scenes" and I did not share on BCF, or here, because I am not at liberty to do so. Suffice to say, it was a double edged sword, at best.

Also, on BCF they think I'm clueless. Saturday I got to talk with a players' dad and a few of the older (age-wise) fans and they know I'm informed. It was nice to have that after all the shit I put up with on the Bobcat Forum.

Is the Texas State AD an East Coast guy?

You guys should take a gander at the UNT acting HC. He's really good.

I hate to see a couple of the coaches go because I think they earned their keep. Hoping the new HC considers a few of them
RB coach Reeve - he should have been given the OC job when Bush left
Dillon - linebackers
Irvin - cornerbacks

I'm glad he is gone. I liked the man, he was a great guy when I met him. However, he was not a great coach. He was pretty good at recruiting but not not at developing talent.

Hope they make an informed decision on the new hire.

Obviously I don't know the situation real well.....but it seems as though player development falls on the assistants and position coaches more than the head coach

LOL! Don't get the McNeese fans started on what they think of Slade. I guarantee you apparently won't hear what you think you would hear. There is not much love for Slade from a lot of McNeese fans.

Sadly, being a good QB isn't necessarily telling no matter the level of excellence. A perfect example would be NFL HOFers Norm Van Brocklin and Bart Starr. The Packers didn't win jack with Starr as HC, while the Falcons were horrendous under the Dutchman.

Sometimes I think that Pete Rose aside, it's easier to get a great baseball player to be a good manager than the equivalent in football.
