#1 Blue Hens Out to Capture CAA Title, Automatic NCAA Tournament Berth in Annual Battle of the Blue vs. #15 Villanova
The No. 1 ranked University of Delaware (9-1, 6-1 CAA) will be looking to treat the Delaware Stadium home crowd to a Colonial Athletic Association championship and automatic NCAA Tournament playoff berth this Saturday as the Hens take on long-time rival Villanova in the annual Battle of the Blue game.
A near sellout crowd is expected for Senior Day and Hall of Fame Day as the two teams battle for the 43rd time since 1895 with the Blue Hens looking to snap a personal four-game losing streak to Villanova (6-4, 4-3 CAA) and down the Wildcats for the first time since the 2005 season and for the first time on its home turf since 2004.
Villanova, the defending NCAA national champions, also have plenty at stake as the Wildcats will most certainly clinch a post-season playoff spot with a victory and most likely be left out of the NCAA Tournament with a loss.
The 20-team NCAA Tournament field will be announced this Sunday morning, Nov. 21, at 10 a.m. on ESPNU. The top 12-ranked teams will earn first round byes.
Today’s game, which will be televised live throughout the Mid-Atlantic region on The Comcast Network, will feature two of the league’s most notable quarterbacks in Delaware’s Pat Devlin and Villanova’s Chris Whitney. Devlin enjoyed a career day last season when the Blue Hens fell to the Wildcats 30-12 at Villanova while Whitney was running for 138 yards and a touchdown.
