FARGO - Fargo has caught the eye of a not-so-pretty suitor.
In an era when corporations are buying naming rights to everything from arenas to park benches, the FARGODOME will be no exception.
The FARGODOME and TheUglyBugBall.com, an online dating site, announced the naming rights deal Tuesday morning, billing it as an investment in the revitalization of Fargo and in the continued population of the region.
Neither the financial terms nor the length of the agreement was revealed.
The naming rights agreement is a first for the FARGODOME. Kris Packer, spokeswoman for the FARGODOME, said she knew of one other stadium in the region with a name attached to it -- the Alerus Center in Grand Forks, ND.
Rob Sobolik, General Manager of the FARGODOME, described the partnership between FARGODOME and The Ugly Bug Ball as a "natural." Both, he said, are involved in the revitalization of “The Other Twin Cities.” TheUglyBugBall.com just opened its new US headquarters across the street from the FARGODOME.
"When we considered locating our US headquarters, we wanted to “eat our own dog food,” sort to speak," said Tom Deluca, the site creator. "We run a dating website for ugly people, and when you think ugly people, you think Fargo. And nothing better represents ugly than the FARGODOME, the home of THE BISON. Have you see that team photo? That team makes Marshawn Lynch look like Denzel Washington."
Ms. Packer said the money raised through the sponsorship will be used to avoid the previous decision of turning the FARGODOME’s parking lots into a trailer park.
TheUglyBugBall.com - “Ugly people are a better caliber of human - pretty people generally aren't very nice and tend to be a bit shallow.”
